To cope with high tides and storms, Ms. Huynh Thi Thu (Phuoc Hau ward) prepared nearly 20 sandbags to cover the front door of her house on Tran Phu street, saying: "Whenever it's the rainy and stormy season, the high tides cause the road to be heavily flooded, making it difficult to travel and do daily activities. During the last high tide on the 15th day of the 7th lunar month, the water level rose high, so I prepared for it. This time, I heard that the high tides would continue to rise and there would be more storms, so I added sandbags, raised furniture, electrical wires and essential items in the house to ensure safety."

After more than half a month of sowing rice, Mr. Nguyen Chi Hau (Cang Long commune) said: "This season, I closely follow the weather forecast. I also reinforced the embankment, cleared the flow, and prepared the water pump so that when there is heavy rain or high tide, I can pump immediately to prevent the fields from being flooded."

According to the provincial Hydrometeorological Station, the highest peak water level during this flood tide will occur on September 23-24. The My Thuan, Cho Lach and Tra Vinh stations are approximately 22cm higher than the level III alarm, the remaining stations are approximately 22cm higher than the level II alarm or lower than the level III alarm. It is forecasted that the flood tide will likely cause flooding from September 22-27 at a level of 15-25cm and the flooding depth will gradually increase according to the rising water level with the tide.

To limit damage caused by high tides and storms, the authorities have also focused on mobilizing all local resources to reinforce and rebuild broken dike sections; raise the dike system and embankments in vulnerable areas...

The authorities recommend that localities need to have plans to protect and reinforce the dyke system, raise furniture and belongings, and proactively deal with flooding and landslides caused by high tides combined with upstream floods, rain and other factors.
