TPO - The impact of heavy rain and storms has caused localized flooding in the Nam An Khanh urban area (Hoai Duc district) for the past three days. All businesses have had to close, focusing their efforts on pumping out water to combat the flooding.
Over the three days from September 9th to 11th, heavy rain fell in Hanoi's inner city and surrounding areas, causing severe flooding on many roads. In particular, the Nam An Khanh urban area (Hoai Duc district) experienced localized flooding. |
Following yesterday's heavy rain, as observed by Tien Phong reporters on the morning of September 12th, the floodwaters in the area have receded quickly, allowing people to move through the area. |
All the villas along Le Trong Tan street were severely flooded, with water overflowing into many houses, inundating the basements and first floors. Due to the heavy flooding, Zone A of the Geleximco urban area experienced power outages on both the 10th and 11th of the month. |
As soon as the power was restored, many businesses had to use pumps to drain the water. Residents said that the basement was flooded with more than 2 meters of water, and it would take a whole day to drain it using small pumps. |
From early morning, many households had to hire people to pump water out so they could resume their businesses as soon as possible. |
Mud and trash litter the internal roads of the residential area. |
People are actively cleaning up in order to resume business as soon as possible. |
Nguyen Khang (37 years old), who rents a townhouse to run a food business in this urban area, said that to pump water out of the basement, he had to buy a high-capacity water pump. "The high-capacity pump has been in use since the evening of September 11th. The fuel for the pump has cost over 1 million VND, it's expensive and still very difficult!" Khang said. |
In this urban area, the basements are designed to be lower than street level, so when heavy rain lasts for an extended period, many families put steel plates on the doors, but water still flows back in. In houses without pumps, the water almost completely fills the basements, causing significant property damage. |
The entrances to the basements of several food stalls in the Nam An Khanh urban area are visible. Refrigerators, plastic containers, and utensils used for preparing drinks are scattered haphazardly inside the basement. |
According to regulations, urban development must at least include synchronized technical infrastructure and drainage systems. However, many newly developed urban areas in Hanoi are now becoming "hot spots" for flooding and pollution. |
