Work as a parking attendant to pay for tuition
From a young age, Mr. Nicholson realized the importance ofeducation . Due to difficult circumstances, his Canadian father only finished grade 3 and left to work while his mother graduated from high school.
"We were encouraged to study and go as far as we could in our academic careers. Our parents wanted something better for us than just being workers in a factory," Nicholson told ABC News.
Mr. Nicholson attended dozens of schools in states such as Michigan, Texas, Indiana (USA) and Canada. His degrees range from educational leadership, library science, school psychology, economics to health education and law enforcement.
“I don’t take online classes. It’s too difficult,” said Mr. Nicholson.
His first degree was a bachelor's degree in religious education from William Tyndale College in Michigan (USA) in 1963.
Mr. Nicholson said he worked various jobs to pay for his tuition, such as delivering newspapers, tutoring, teaching assistant and ticket writer at a university for 11 years.
"I have taught more than 18,000 students but this is the first time I have witnessed a case like Nicholson's," said Professor Tom Carey of Western Michigan University (USA).
Nicholson reportedly worked as a parking attendant for the university. He wrote Professor Carey three tickets in one day, and the two began to date.
"He was a lifelong learner. I was amazed at his persistence in school," said Professor Carey.
Although Mr. Carey was never Nicholson's professor, the two met at least once a year for Nicholson to "update" Professor Carey on his academic achievements. Professor Carey often used his example in his lectures.

"Don't give up too soon"
Having been through 30 graduations, Mr Nicholson said the feeling was "very exciting. It's like you've finally reached your goal after a journey".
"I went to Detroit Bible College. Every year, the president of the college sent out a message to the students titled, 'Don't Give Up Too Soon.' He tried to keep all of us in school until we graduated. That would be my message to any young person: Don't give up too soon."
Stressing the importance of passion, Mr. Nicholson said: "It doesn't really matter what you study, but you should study something that really interests you. Otherwise, you might give up halfway."
"Don't worry if you haven't found your passion yet. My wife studied education. She taught for 37 years before she found her true passion in data processing."
“I wake up at 4 a.m., then I go for a 2-mile (3.2 km) walk. That doesn’t mean everyone has to wake up at 4 a.m., but you have to form a good routine and stick to it,” Nicholson told Vice in 2016.
Michael Nicholson's remarkable academic achievements have inspired millions of people around the world to pursue their passions to the fullest.
His life shows that everyone is capable of achieving great things if they put their mind to it and dedicate themselves to it.
