That is the case of Mr. NVS (61 years old). Taking the medical history, previously while feeding chicks, Mr. S. was suddenly kicked in the face by a rooster that jumped up, causing a wound with a lot of bleeding and swelling in the right cheekbone.
He treated himself at a local medical facility with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs, but his condition worsened, the injured area continued to swell, ache intensely, and ooze pus and blood. A week after the accident, he was referred to an eye hospital for treatment.
Through clinical examination, Dr. Trinh The Son, Head of General Planning and Quality Management Department, said that the patient had a widespread abscess swelling in the lower eyelid area next to the root of the nose, hard to the touch, and when pressed, pus and blood flowed out of the wound.
Doctors discovered a foreign object in the abscess of unknown size. Immediately, the patient was assigned emergency surgery to clean the inflammation and remove the foreign object from the abscess.
The foreign object removed surprised the medical staff, as it was a 2.8cm long, sharp, crumbly, ivory-colored cock spur. Notably, the foreign object was only about 1cm away from the eyeball and fortunately did not cause any damage to the eye.

Doctor Trinh The Son shared that this is a very rare case where the foreign object is large in size, located in a dangerous position but the patient is completely unaware.
"Foreign objects need to be removed as soon as possible. Late detection of foreign objects will make the disease worse, making surgery and post-operative treatment difficult, increasing the risk of complications for the patient," Dr. Trinh The Son warned.
After surgery, the patient was given antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Currently, Mr. S.'s health condition is stable, he is alert, no pain, and the swelling has significantly reduced.
Doctors advise people not to be subjective with facial injuries, especially the area near the eyes. In many cases, foreign objects such as nails, chicken spurs, wood or small pieces of metal can penetrate deep into soft tissue, making them difficult to detect with the naked eye.

Improper treatment or late detection can lead to infection, tissue necrosis, vision loss, and in some cases can be life-threatening if not treated promptly and properly.
Previously, a 15-year-old male student was shot by an iron ball and left in his eye for several days without realizing it. The patient then underwent emergency surgery to remove a 6mm metal foreign object located just under the skin of his left eyelid, just a few millimeters from the eyeball.
Doctors say that if the force of the shot was stronger, the bullet could have directly impacted the eyeball, causing bleeding in the eye, retinal detachment or rupture of the eyeball, leading to serious vision loss.
