(PLVN) - Since the afternoon of May 6, tens of thousands of monks, nuns, Buddhists and people have lined up to wait to visit the heart relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc at Viet Nam Quoc Tu (District 10, Ho Chi Minh City).

The ceremony to worship the relics of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc at Vietnam National Pagoda has just begun at 2:00 p.m. on May 6, but since early morning, many monks, nuns, Buddhists, and people have come here to wait to worship.

The opening ceremony to worship the heart relics of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc took place solemnly and respectfully. The ceremony was witnessed and chaired by Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang, Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha; Most Venerable Thich Thien Nhon, and other venerable monks.

Under the scorching sun, thousands of people lined up to wait to see the heart relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc at Viet Nam Quoc Tu.

Previously, the invitation, enshrinement and worship of the heart relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc was scheduled to take place on May 3 but was postponed.

In the announcement on the afternoon of May 3, Most Venerable Thich Le Trang, Vice President of the Executive Council, Head of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City, Vice President of the Organizing Committee of the United Nations (UN) Vesak 2025, said that the pilgrimage will begin from 2:00 p.m. on May 6 to 10, 2025.

"Now that the conditions have come together, the invitation, enshrinement and worship of the relics of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc - one of the important spiritual events will be held on the occasion of the 2025 UN Vesak Festival, in the first days of the 2569th Buddha's Birthday" - the announcement said.

Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc immolated himself on June 20, 1963 at the intersection of Le Van Duyet and Phan Dinh Phung, Saigon (now the intersection of Cach Mang Thang Tam and Nguyen Dinh Chieu streets, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City), leaving behind an immortal heart relic, symbolizing the spirit of compassion and wisdom of Buddhism and the tradition of the Vietnamese people.

Previously, on the morning of May 6, the 2025 Vesak Festival officially opened with the participation of President Luong Cuong and many domestic and international leaders and delegates.

The main message of the ceremony: Solidarity and tolerance for human dignity: Buddhist wisdom for world peace and sustainable development, demonstrates the role of Buddhism in promoting peace, understanding and harmonious coexistence among cultures and religions.

The enshrinement of the heart relics of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc is not only a spiritual ritual but also a profound reminder of the value of freedom of belief, sacrifice for the truth, as well as the spirit of peace and humanity that Vesak aims for.
