K'Ho people in Lam Dong through multidimensional perspectives

Lam Dong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just sent to readers the collection "K'Ho people in Lam Dong - multidimensional approach" published by Social Sciences Publishing House, co-edited by folklore researcher Mai Minh Nhat and Tran Thanh Hoai.

K'Ho people - Di Linh preserve traditional festivals

500 pages of book with 26 research articles on the K'Ho people in Lam Dong in all fields of economics , culture, society, ethnology, anthropology, cultural studies, sociology, linguistics, folklore... in all stages of development from the past, present and future, has provided readers with a panoramic picture of the K'Ho people in Lam Dong with interesting perspectives.

Mr. Tran Thanh Hoai (editor-in-chief) said: Research on the K'Ho people has been a topic of interest to many scientists since the beginning of the 20th century during the French colonial period; in the past 20 years, the number of scholars researching the K'Ho people has increased. There have been many scientific articles about the K'Ho community in Lam Dong, sometimes presented at conferences and seminars, sometimes published in specialized journals. Unlike monographs on the K'Ho people which are quite popular, scientific articles on the K'Ho people appear sporadically and are only accessible to a few people.

The opening of the book, “Overview of the K'Ho people and research on the K'Ho people in Lam Dong” provided a lot of general knowledge about the name, origin, history of the ethnic group, local groups, population, residential area, economic activities, social life, cultural life. Accordingly, the K'Ho people are one of the 12 local ethnic groups of the Central Highlands, speaking the Mon - Khmer language, residing concentratedly in the Di Linh plateau and Lam Vien plateau since the Paleolithic era (archaeological discoveries) with the branches of Lach, Chil, Sre, Nop, Co Don, T'ring...

The past 50 years have seen dramatic changes in all aspects of K'Ho people's lives, with changes in economic activities such as production of goods, services, community tourism, and poverty being pushed back; leading to changes in all aspects such as housing, clothing, cuisine, beliefs, religions, customs, folk performances, etc.; along with that, many traditional cultural heritages have also faded and disappeared.

The collection “The K'Ho people in Lam Dong - a multidimensional approach” allows readers to look back at the past to clearly see the future development of an ethnic group, thereby affirming: Socio-economic development must always go hand in hand with preserving and maintaining traditional cultural values.
