Many climbers usually take days to conquer the world's highest peak, which is over 8,800 meters high, stopping overnight at different camps to rest and acclimatize. But Lama, a Nepalese woman in her 30s, took just 14 hours and 31 minutes to reach the top of Everest on May 23, far surpassing her 2018 record of 39 hours and 6 minutes.

Khim Lal Gautam, Director of the Nepal Tourism Ministry's Base Camp Field Office, confirmed that Lama reached the summit of Everest at 6:23 a.m. on May 23. She departed from Everest Base Camp at 3:52 p.m. on May 22. From Everest, Lama returned to Base Camp in just over 10 hours.

Lama is a helicopter rescue and guide, rescuing injured climbers in mountainous terrain that is too dangerous for planes to approach or land. At that time, the helicopter must hover and drop ropes for rescuers to rappel down to save the injured passengers. Before that, Lama conquered some of the world's highest peaks such as Manaslu and Cho Oyu, both in the Himalayas.

"She was very brave, determined and worked hard to reach the top," Nepalese mountaineer Maya Sherpa said of Lama. Lama's record is also considered an inspiration for female climbers in Nepal.

Lama won the Guinness World Record for "Fastest woman to climb Mount Everest" in 2018. The record was broken in 2021 by Ada Tsang Yin Hung, from Hong Kong, China. Ada left Base Camp at 01:20 on 22 May 2021 and conquered Mount Everest the next day, after 25 hours and 50 minutes.

Nepalese climber Lhakpa Gelu Sherpa currently holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest ascent of Mount Everest, reaching the summit in 10 hours and 56 minutes in 2003.

A day before Lama set the world record for the fastest female climber to summit Mount Everest, another famous mountain guide, Kami Rita, set the world record for the most Everest summits with 30 times.
