The valuable thing is that Mr. Hoang not only benefits himself, but also enthusiastically shares knowledge and experience about new models for farmers in the region to work together and improve their lives.

Having a passion for growing ornamental flowers

One day at the end of May 2025, we followed the staff of the Farmers' Association of Phu Hoi commune to visit the flower and ornamental plant growing model in the garden of about 5,000 m2 of Mr. Hoang's family. In the garden, there are 2 main crops: bougainvillea and apricot blossom. In addition, Mr. Hoang also planted more green trees and other species of trees such as star fruit, Indian laurel, and purple-flowered trees... to meet current market demand. Thanks to thorough investment and effective application of science and technology in planting, care, and crossbreeding, Mr. Hoang's flower garden has increased its economic value.

When talking about his relationship with ornamental flower growing, Mr. Hoang said that in 1994, he got married and his parents gave him a small “dowry” so that he and his wife could invest in making wine and raising pigs. At that time, he often took advantage of his free time to go into the forest to collect firewood to sell for extra income. From those trips, he discovered many beautiful flowers in the forest, including wild orchids, so he brought them back to grow, and from then on he “fell in love” with ornamental plant growing.

At first, Mr. Hoang only played with ornamental plants to satisfy his passion and did not think about doing business to bring income to his family. In 2000, a friend from Long Thanh district came to his house and suggested investing in the flower and ornamental plant business. After researching, he found that this profession was developing and had many prospects, and the model was suitable for his family's condition of having little land for cultivation, so he decided to try this new model.

When he first started, some people discussed it because they thought that growing flowers and ornamental plants was not feasible and would fail. At the same time, he also encountered difficulties in investment capital; he did not have much experience in planting and caring for plants, leading to the plants gradually dying, greatly affecting the economy. However, he did not give up, but always found ways to overcome difficulties to rise up.

Mr. Hoang chose the “slow but sure” option by gradually investing in the flower and ornamental plant growing model. He mobilized his family’s capital and borrowed from relatives to invest in the model. At the same time, he took on planting trees, grass, and taking care of and maintaining flowers and ornamental plants in companies and factories located in Nhon Trach district. The “putting in the work to make a profit” approach helped him have a source of income to invest in developing his flower and ornamental plant growing model.

In addition, Mr. Hoang has arranged time to go to the provinces of the Southwest ( Ben Tre , Vinh Long, Tien Giang...) to buy seedlings, and learn from the experiences, techniques of planting, caring, and crossbreeding new varieties from those who have gone before. Thanks to that, he has gained a lot of knowledge and experience to apply to his family's economic model to make it more and more effective.

The effort has paid off, now in Mr. Hoang's family's 5,000 m2 garden there are about 4,000 bougainvillea trees with about 40 rare varieties (there are about 20 varieties of bougainvillea that bloom all year round). Currently, each bougainvillea tree is sold by his family for a price ranging from 400,000 to 15 million VND.

“The price of bougainvillea trees, whether cheap or expensive, depends on many factors such as: the size of the base, the shape of the tree, whether it is beautiful or not. In addition, the blooming flowers also play a very important role in increasing the value of the plant,” Mr. Hoang confided.

In Mr. Hoang’s family garden, there are currently about 60 apricot trees for rent during Tet. The rental price for each apricot tree ranges from 1.5 to 15 million VND (depending on the size of the tree, its beautiful shape and the number of flowers it blooms). In addition, Mr. Hoang also takes care of ornamental plants for local people to increase his income.

To make his products known to customers near and far, Mr. Hoang boldly registered to participate in local spring flower festivals; actively participated in exchanges with people with similar passions; and directly sold flowers during Tet to create trust for customers. In addition, he also filmed clips and took photos to introduce the products on his personal social media accounts. Thanks to that, the products became known to many customers near and far and more and more customers contacted to order.

Mr. Huynh Van Hoang shared: “With my current experience, I am confident in making paper flower trees that bloom all year round with many bright and eye-catching colors. Whenever customers want to buy flowers, they just need to notify me 2 months in advance and I can make paper flower trees according to their needs.”

Wholeheartedly help people in the area

Up to now, Mr. Hoang's flower and ornamental plant growing model has been very successful, helping his family's economy to develop more and more, creating conditions to build a solid house and take care of his children's education. Not only benefiting himself, he is also willing to share his knowledge and experience in growing flowers and ornamental plants with farmers in the area who have the same aspirations to do business together and develop the family economy.

In 2018, the Phu Hoi Ornamental Plants Cooperative was established, with Mr. Hoang as the Head. By 2023, the Phu Hoi Flower and Ornamental Plants Farmers Association was established, with Mr. Hoang as the Head. In order not to disappoint the expectations of the members, Mr. Hoang is willing to support seedlings and share experiences so that members can apply the flower and ornamental plant growing model. In addition, he regularly grasps the thoughts and aspirations of farmers to provide timely support. For example, connecting and creating conditions for farmers to access preferential loans to invest in model development; accessing State policies and protecting the rights and interests of farmer members...

Chairman of Phu Hoi Commune Farmers' Association Nguyen Huy Sang commented that Mr. Huynh Van Hoang is one of the typical farmer members. In the past, he did not hesitate to face difficulties and was willing to travel to remote areas to learn about growing flowers and ornamental plants and then successfully apply them to local models. In addition, he also enthusiastically instructed about 50 members of the Commune Farmers' Association on how to grow flowers and ornamental plants as well as how to sell flowers and ornamental plants during holidays and Tet. Many households have applied this model effectively, and their family economy has become more stable.

“When identifying the planting of flowers and ornamental plants as a new model with high efficiency, the Farmers’ Association of Phu Hoi commune advised the local Party Committee, government as well as the higher-level Farmers’ Association to have policies to support farmers growing flowers and ornamental plants. Recently, the Farmers’ Support Fund of Nhon Trach district has supported 10 households with capital of 500 million VND to have conditions to invest in developing the model of planting flowers and ornamental plants in the commune,” said Mr. Sang.

Chairman of the Farmers’ Association of Phu Hoi Commune, Nguyen Huy Sang, said that farmer Huynh Van Hoang has a good way of creating a variety of flower and ornamental plant products with prices ranging from “popular” to high-end, to meet market demand. This method has helped him earn a good income.
