This is one of the practical and meaningful activities affirming the city's care and gratitude towards the generation of veterans, who have made important contributions to the struggle for national liberation and nation building.

City's recognition of veterans

On the afternoon of September 1, despite unfavorable weather, representatives of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward, the Veterans Association of the ward and associations and unions of Duong Noi ward still went to the family to give gifts from the city to two veterans in difficult circumstances.

Presenting the gift to veteran Le Hao (born in 1947), Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Duong Noi Ward Lai Ha Phuong said that immediately after receiving the list of veterans receiving gifts from the city sent by the city's Fatherland Front, the ward organized to present them to the veterans on the occasion of the country's great holiday. This is the city's recognition to the veterans and also the gratitude of the Party and State to those who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation.

The family of veteran Le Dang Hao is in a difficult situation as his wife has to undergo regular dialysis; Hao himself is a war invalid and sick soldier with poor health; his family has a daughter who was infected with Agent Orange and passed away in 2024... "The gift from the city is truly meaningful, helping to encourage veterans to overcome difficulties, forever shining with the revolutionary spirit of veterans", comrade Lai Ha Phuong shared.

Belonging to the "B" class and fighting on the battlefield in Laos, after a long time of being immersed in the rain of bombs and bullets, Mr. Dam Duc Hoat (Le Loi street, Van Dinh commune) returned to his hometown as a 2/3 class disabled soldier... Participating in work at the grassroots level and in cooperatives, he did not mind the difficulties and hardships, still hoping to make contributions to life. At the age of 78, Mr. Hoat's health has declined, but his spirit is still very optimistic.

Mr. Hoat emotionally said: “Although life is full of difficulties, I still feel happy. If I think positively, life will always be beautiful. I am even happier when on the occasion of the national holiday, I received a gift worth 5 million VND from the city budget. The gift is the city's concern for veterans. Besides, I have just been awarded the 55-year Party badge, so I feel even more honored and proud. This is a great source of encouragement for our generation.”

Take an active interest in veterans

Currently, the City Veterans Association has more than 290,000 members; of which, members directly participated in the resistance war against the French (5,508 people), against the Americans (140,000 people) and fought to protect the northern and southwestern borders (78,000 people)... Most veterans during their time in the army worked in harsh, heavy, and toxic environments, so many members after being discharged from the army and returning to their localities are slow to integrate into the community, have unstable jobs, and many comrades have difficult family conditions.

Based on the above reality and implementing the Conclusion of the Standing Committee of the Hanoi People's Committee at the meeting on May 20, 2025 on the implementation of preparations for organizing the celebration of Hanoi city and the rally, parade, and march to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), the Hanoi Veterans Association reported and proposed to the Hanoi People's Committee on showing gratitude to veterans.

Accordingly, to honor, express gratitude and encourage veterans, cadres and soldiers of the People's Armed Forces to continue to uphold and promote the heroic and revolutionary traditions of the nation; the nature and tradition of "Uncle Ho's Soldiers" to build the capital Hanoi "Cultured, civilized, modern", contributing with the entire Party, the entire people and the entire army to successfully carry out the task of building and defending the Fatherland, the City Veterans Association proposed to visit and present gifts to representatives of 200 outstanding members who are in difficult circumstances, the gift level is 5 million VND/member; the funding source is from the city budget.

The above proposal has been approved by the Hanoi People's Committee. Accordingly, the City Veterans Association has directed the Veterans Associations of 126 communes and wards to review and make a list of cases according to the correct criteria and standards.

Colonel Do Duc Son, Deputy Head of the Veterans Affairs Department, Hanoi Veterans Association, said that the money was a gift for 200 veterans in difficult circumstances, which was spent from the city budget and transferred to the Vietnam Fatherland Front in communes and wards for localities to give to the veterans. As of 12:00 on September 1, the communes and wards had given about 98% of the total 200 veterans who received gifts. This is a timely and meaningful gratitude, and a deep concern of the city for veterans in difficult circumstances in life.

Showing gratitude to veterans in particular, policy beneficiaries, and families with revolutionary contributions in general is a fine, eternal morality of our nation. And during these historic August Revolution days, many beautiful actions and meaningful works showing the concern of the Party, the State, Hanoi City and the people of the Capital for veterans have also been clearly demonstrated.

On the night of September 1, hundreds of veterans, the elderly, and children came to overnight accommodations arranged by Ba Dinh Ward to rest. At these locations, the ward authorities coordinated with mass organizations such as the Veterans Association, Women's Association, and Youth Union to organize receptions, guidance, and services. The rooms were equipped with fans, drinking water, and necessary items, ensuring a clean, airy space for everyone to rest after a long journey. Security, order, environmental sanitation, and health care were also given special attention to ensure absolute safety...

Along with that, many veterans were arranged seats by the authorities so that veterans and the elderly could conveniently watch the parade; many free accommodations were also given by the people to veterans from far away who came to the capital...

There are many more meaningful and humane stories like this taking place in the sacred moment of this Independence Autumn. The practical actions above are truly meaningful and responsible actions of Hanoi city, as well as of Hanoi people, contributing to the overall success of the activities celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.
