The reason Madonna used the song 'Like a Prayer' in the blockbuster 'Deadpool & Wolverine'

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman had to go through a lot of complicated procedures to get permission to use Madonna's 1989 hit song Like a Prayer in the blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine.

In an interview with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM on July 19, the superhero duo revealed that they, along with director Shawn Levy, went to Madonna (65 years old) to ask her permission to license this song.

"We personally visited Madonna and showed her the footage that would use the song Like a Prayer ," Shawn Levy (55) explained.

Ryan Reynolds, 47, added: "She initially said no, especially that song. That request was a big deal and certainly using this song was an even bigger deal. We went to Madonna and showed her how the song was used in the film."

Levy added that he felt like the crew was "meeting royalty", before Reynolds jokingly revealed that he once asked one of the crew members how to address Madonna when he met her.

Reynolds also said that Madonna not only agreed to let them use Like a Prayer because the singer's son is a big fan of the previous two Deadpool movies, but she also provided them with notes on which scenes the song should be used in.

Deadpool & Wolverine tells the story of two characters Deadpool and Wolverine teaming up on a new mission.

"Madonna gave us a great note. We did a new take of the song in 48 hours," Levy said.

Deadpool & Wolverine also stars Hugh Jackman (55), reprising his role as Wolverine. He last played the character in Logan in 2017, a year before Deadpool 2 was released.

Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters worldwide on July 26, featuring Deadpool and Wolverine teaming up for a new mission. The film also stars Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Brianna Hildebrand, etc.
