People in the alluvial plains along the Krông Nô River are converting less productive rice fields to growing biomass corn, achieving high economic efficiency.

According to the Lam Dong Provincial Department of Agriculture , as of early August 2025, the province had planted an estimated 1 million hectares of various crops. Of this, the area of annual crops reached over 408,000 hectares, and perennial crops 639,000 hectares.

Since the beginning of the season, localities have actively implemented measures to ensure production plans, aiming for a total food production of 415,000 tons. The restructuring of crop patterns has also been effectively implemented, covering an area of 13,273 hectares, an increase of 3,425 hectares compared to 2024, reaching 99.87% of the plan.

Assessments show that most crop conversion models yield higher economic returns compared to rice cultivation, ranging from 3 million to 13 million VND per hectare. Short-term crops, which can be grown multiple times a year, generate profits 2-3 times higher than rice cultivation. In recent days, people in the communes have taken advantage of favorable weather conditions and proactively responded to extreme weather events to stabilize production, while also accelerating the harvesting of the summer-autumn crop and planting the autumn-winter crop. One of the key focuses implemented by localities in crop restructuring is the selection of new varieties, the application of scientific and technical methods, and cultivation on suitable land.

The Nam Dong Soybean Cooperative's soybean yield reached over 3 tons/ha, higher than traditional farming methods.

Mr. Nong Van Ngoc's family, in Hamlet 11, Nam Dong Commune, planted over 5 sao (approximately 0.5 hectares) of soybeans this summer-autumn season. According to Mr. Ngoc, soybeans are chosen by farmers in the area to replace some less efficient crops such as hybrid corn and various types of beans. "After joining the Nam Dong Soybean Cooperative, I was guided on using high-quality soybean varieties, especially the purebred Chu Jut white-flowered soybean. With 1 hectare of soybean seeds, the profit reached over 25 million VND, which is more than 7 million VND/hectare higher than growing corn," Mr. Ngoc said.

According to Mr. Pham Van Giang, a member of the Nam Dong Soybean Cooperative, Vietnam Soy Milk Company (Vinasoy) has guided the application of modern farming methods, helping to increase soybean yield and quality. As a result, for many years, the soybean yield of the people has reached over 3 tons/ha.

Currently, in Nam Dong commune, nearly 200 hectares of soybeans are cultivated using high-quality farming methods. Over the years, the Vinasoy Soybean Research and Application Center (VSAC) has introduced the VINASOY 02-NS non-GMO soybean variety, which boasts superior yield and quality, replacing the traditional white-flowered local soybean variety. Simultaneously, the center actively guides farmers in adhering to proper production processes, gradually changing old farming practices, and applying new technical advancements, thereby enhancing the value of local soybeans.

To ensure timely progress in summer-autumn crop production, the agricultural departments of the communes have organized technical training courses, transferred scientific and technical advancements, and provided fertilizers using the "four correct" method, helping to increase the resistance and resilience of crops.

Residents of Phu Son commune, Lam Ha district, have converted rice paddies far from water sources to sweet potato cultivation for export, yielding high economic returns.

According to the leaders of the Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Environment, in the remaining months of the 2025 crop season, localities will continue to accelerate the conversion and planting of new high-economic-value crops, especially converting areas with low-efficiency crops in the communes of Di Linh, Phu Son Lam Ha, Nam Ban Lam Ha, Ta Dung, Krong No, etc. Emphasis will be placed on crops such as coffee, pepper, durian, dragon fruit, avocado, and other cash crops. This forms the basis for the province's agricultural sector to commit to achieving its 2025 target of planting over 1 million hectares and a growth rate of 5.8% or higher. To achieve this goal, the Lam Dong agricultural sector is actively reviewing, researching, and implementing plans to develop high-tech, smart, and safe agricultural practices for various crops, especially in the eastern and western production areas of Lam Dong province.
