Kitchen staff reveal about school meals accused in Lam Dong

(Dan Tri) - A former kitchen staff member said that the contracts of 8 people who reported poor quality food to the school were terminated. The reporting was not for personal gain but stemmed from the desire to protect the students.

Regarding the information that TV Primary School (Xuan Huong Ward - Da Lat, Lam Dong ) was accused of contracting with a food supplier that did not ensure quality to serve boarding meals to students, Ms. NTKT, 1 of 7 kitchen staff who filed the complaint, said that in the 2024-2025 school year, the kitchen department discovered 6 times that the food supplier had signs of irregularities.

These include: smelly pork bones; unlabeled, smelly beef balls; green, strange-smelling pork after boiling; wet, smelly pre-sliced ​​beef; and black-headed shrimp.

According to Ms. Thanh, every time the kitchen staff found that the food was of poor quality, they reported it to the school leadership and proposed a plan to return the food to the supplier or destroy it to ensure the health of the students.

“In the times of complaints and petitions, the school returned the pork bones to the supplier; the green meat on March 5 and April 15 was sealed, returned to the supplier, and destroyed. The rest was mostly cooked,” Ms. NTKT said.

Also according to Ms. T., from March to April, the kitchen department twice requested the leadership of TV Primary School to hold a meeting with the food supplier to handle the problem or change the supplier, but was not approved by the school leadership.

Regarding the incident, Ms. T. said that she and 7 colleagues had their labor contracts terminated at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. However, the fact that she and her colleagues denounced the school about the issue of poor quality food did not stem from being fired, nor for personal gain, but out of conscience, wanting to protect the rights of students.

In response to the news of poor quality food entering the kitchen, many parents whose children are studying at TV Primary School are upset and worried. In recent days, many families have come to pick up their children from school, refusing to eat the lunch that the school had prepared.

Ms. LD, the parent of a second-grade boy, shared: “Each lunch at school costs 30,000 VND and when we registered our child for boarding school, we had a lot of trust in the school. However, it was not until there was information about dirty food on social media that we learned about the incident.”

According to Ms. D., the family hopes that the authorities will intervene to clarify the incident, and at the same time request that the school be transparent about the food source and supplier, and ensure food hygiene and safety according to regulations.

Previously, Dan Tri reported that on the social network Facebook, an account named "Nguyen Thanh" posted information about a unit repeatedly supplying food that did not meet quality standards to TV Primary School. Accordingly, in the 2024-2025 school year, the supplier delivered to the school 10kg of smelly pork bones that showed signs of turning green; 35kg of frozen beef balls that smelled, without packaging or labels; 60kg of pork that, after boiling, had a dark green color and a strange smell; 50kg of wet, smelly pre-sliced ​​beef...

The incident caused public outrage, dozens of parents whose children are studying at TV Primary School went to the school to ask the principal for information about the incident.

On September 17, the People's Committee of Xuan Huong Ward - Da Lat, the Department of Education and Training of Lam Dong province requested the leaders of TV Primary School to report the incident.
