The Ministry of Education and Training requires universities to innovate STEM programs.

GD&TĐ - The Ministry of Education and Training has requested higher education institutions to review and innovate training programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The Ministry of Education and Training issued Official Dispatch No. 5695/BGDĐT-GDĐH to higher education institutions to implement the Project on training human resources to serve high-tech development in the period 2025 - 2035, with a vision to 2045, according to Decision No. 1002/QD-TTg dated May 24, 2025 of the Prime Minister.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Education and Training requested schools to develop specific implementation plans, in line with their goals, development orientation, training and research capacity. The Ministry requested to review and innovate training programs in science , technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) according to program standards, practical requirements and access to international standards.

Training institutions are encouraged to apply a convergent education model, focusing on practical skills and interdisciplinary approaches, especially postgraduate programs in digital technology, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology.

At the same time, it is necessary to diversify STEM training methods, increase the application of digital training, AI, open education models linked with businesses and research institutes to form an artificial intelligence ecosystem and virtual space.

The Ministry also emphasized the development of high-quality training programs through international cooperation, implementing a joint training model at the postgraduate level; organizing the recruitment and training of talented engineers and masters from 2025 to 2035, with a team of excellent lecturers, modern training methods and advanced technology.

Attracting and retaining good teachers

The Ministry of Education and Training recommends that schools closely link the training of high-quality human resources with attracting and employing STEM PhDs working abroad; and prioritize sending lecturers to study for PhDs at prestigious international institutions.

The Ministry also requested the development of a policy to encourage cooperation in master's and doctoral training associated with scientific research and technology development, and at the same time apply an ordering mechanism based on output results.

At the same time, schools need to develop policies to attract and maintain a stable team of good lecturers, especially young lecturers with potential, through long-term support in working, living and research conditions.

Invest in laboratories, expand international cooperation

The Ministry of Education and Training encourages schools to prioritize investment in upgrading laboratories, technology and learning materials to serve high-tech training and research; and mobilize support from businesses to create conditions for students to practice and intern.

At the same time, expand international cooperation with the world's leading universities, large technology corporations and international organizations to exchange experiences and develop high technology and strategic technology. The Ministry also aims to build excellent training and research centers according to the public-private partnership model, with the participation of corporations and enterprises using technology human resources.

Previously, on May 24, 2025, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1002/QD-TTg approving the Project on training high-tech human resources for the period 2025 - 2035, with a vision to 2045. The project aims to prepare a highly qualified STEM team capable of participating deeply in research and development of strategic technologies, contributing to creating national competitive advantages and sustainable development in the era of science - technology, innovation, digital transformation and green transformation.
