According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs ( Ministry of Finance ), in May, the number of complete automobiles of all types registered for import customs declarations increased by 29.2% (corresponding to 3,376 units) compared to the import volume of the previous month.
In May, imports of all types of completely assembled automobiles reached 14,941 vehicles, equivalent to a value of 311 million USD.

In May, the majority of complete automobiles of all types registered for customs clearance for import into Vietnam originated from three main markets: Indonesia, Thailand, and China.
Imports from Indonesia totaled 6,333 units; from Thailand 5,089 units; and from China 3,051 units. The total number of vehicles imported from these three markets reached 14,473 units, accounting for 97% of the total number of cars imported into Vietnam.
In May, 11,964 passenger cars with 9 seats or fewer were imported into Vietnam, valued at US$198 million, accounting for 80.1% of all imported complete cars. This represents a 36.4% (3,193 units) increase in the number of passenger cars with 9 seats or fewer imported into Vietnam compared to the previous month.
Of these, the majority of vehicles registered for import declarations were in the border areas and ports of Ho Chi Minh City with 6,262 units, an increase of 50.2%, and Hai Phong with 4,694 units, an increase of 8.4% compared to the previous month.
Overall, in the first five months of 2024, the number of completely assembled cars imported into Vietnam was 58,716 vehicles, a decrease of 5.2% compared to the same period last year. Of these, passenger cars with 9 seats or fewer accounted for 47,390 units, a decrease of 3.8%, and transport vehicles totaled 4,343 units, a sharp decrease of 53.1%...
