Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya stressed the importance of the three countries strengthening cooperation, shifting from confrontation to cooperation, especially when the region is facing major economic and security challenges.

Mr. Iwaya also reiterated his stance of opposing any actions to change the status quo by force in the region. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also expressed his desire to build a sustainable cooperative relationship.

In addition to security, the three countries also discussed economic challenges such as China's real estate crisis, political turmoil in South Korea due to the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol, and concerns about trade tensions between Beijing and Washington during US President Donald Trump's second term.

The meeting also marked an effort to restore high-level economic dialogue between Japan and China for the first time in six years, including the issue of China's ban on Japanese seafood imports following the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster.

The trilateral summit, scheduled for later this year, marks the resumption of meetings between the three leaders after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and historical tensions. Despite their differences, the three sides have sought to maintain cooperation to ensure regional stability in an increasingly uncertain world.
