Doctor Bach Thi Chinh, Medical Director of VNVC Vaccination System, said that the Tet holiday is often the time when people increase their movement and contact with the community with many activities such as traveling, returning to their hometowns, visiting relatives... At this time, the weather is often humid, the transition from winter to spring in the North, creating conditions for viruses and bacteria to be more active than in other seasons.
In addition, some seasonal infectious diseases can affect people's health, including the elderly, pregnant women, and children. Dengue fever and hand, foot, and mouth disease will be rampant in 2023, causing a large disease burden. Vaccines for these diseases are currently available but have not been approved in Vietnam. In addition, influenza, rabies, encephalitis, meningitis, Japanese encephalitis, measles, diarrhea caused by rotavirus, etc. are also common during the changing seasons.
Therefore, vaccination is considered a necessary preparation step to make travel and spring travel safer. In addition to vaccination, Dr. Chinh recommends that people check the epidemic situation in their localities before traveling to have appropriate disease prevention methods.
If in the country, families can look for information in newspapers, radio or websites of the Ministry of Health, health departments, disease control centers in that locality. In case of traveling abroad, notes are provided on the website of the US CDC or WHO, disease surveillance units.
