On the afternoon of June 5, the traffic police team of Ben Thanh Team under the Traffic Police Department (PC08) of Ho Chi Minh City Police set up a checkpoint on Cach Mang Thang 8 Street (near the intersection with Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street), Ben Thanh Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City to carry out a special task of handling motorcyclists driving on the sidewalk.
At 5:30 p.m., the traffic police discovered Ms. HTMD (26 years old, residing in Quang Ngai province) driving on the sidewalk, so they stopped her car for inspection. Ms. D. was ticketed by the traffic police for the above violation. For this violation, Ms. D. will be fined from 4-6 million VND and have 2 points deducted from her driver's license.
Ms. D. said that she had just gone to work in District 4 and had to urgently return home, so she went onto the sidewalk. Ms. D. explained that she usually obeys the Law on Road Order and Safety, but this time, due to urgent work and the crowded road, she went onto the sidewalk.

"I know my behavior is a violation. After this time, I will learn from my mistakes and not violate again because the fine for this behavior is much higher than before," Ms. D. shared.
Next, the traffic police stopped Ms. LKK (23 years old, living in An Giang province) for the same violation. Ms. K. was also fined 4-6 million VND and had 2 points deducted from her driving license.
Ms. K. shared that she saw on the news and on the radio that the traffic police were strictly handling the act of walking on the sidewalk, but she did not think she would be "caught".

"I saw many people walking on the sidewalk without thinking that I would be fined. I saw everyone walking so I followed. After this, I won't dare walk on the sidewalk anymore... because the fines are too high," Ms. K. expressed.
At 5:28 p.m., traffic police stopped Mr. NNST (43 years old) driving on the sidewalk of Cach Mang Thang 8 Street. Similarly, for this violation, Mr. T. was fined from 4-6 million VND and had 2 points deducted from his driver's license.
Mr. T. begged the traffic police to let him off the hook because it was his first violation, and Mr. T. also said that he was in a hurry so he drove onto the sidewalk. However, the traffic police were determined to handle the situation strictly to deter the act of riding motorbikes onto the sidewalk.
At 5:43 p.m., while the task force was checking other violators, Ms. LTTV (25 years old, living in Lam Dong province) drove in the wrong direction on the sidewalk of Cach Mang Thang 8 Street. Immediately, the traffic police team chased after her and stopped the car to check and make a record of similar behavior.
Ms. V. said that because she was afraid of having to go in a long detour, she decided to drive in the opposite direction on the sidewalk to "go faster".
On the afternoon of June 5, Ben Thanh traffic police recorded many similar cases. Currently, the fine for walking on the sidewalk is higher than before and the traffic police regularly patrol, control, and strictly handle this behavior to deter and raise awareness of traffic participants.
