After its establishment, Division 324 grew steadily, quickly participating in combat missions, training and building regular units. From 1962, the Division crossed the border to Laos to coordinate the liberation of the Plain of Jars and Xieng Khouang, forcing the enemy to sign the Geneva Agreement on Laos. In May 1966, Division 324 crossed the border to the South, fighting on Route 9 - North Quang Tri. After 6 months of continuous fighting on the fierce battlefield, the Division achieved many feats, both destroying the enemy and providing support for the political movement in the Tri Thien - Hue urban area. Division 324 also made great contributions to the Khe Sanh and Route 9 - South Laos campaigns, contributing to forcing the US to de-escalate the war, leading to the signing of the Paris Agreement (1973). In particular, in the great victory of spring 1975, the Division was one of the main units attacking to liberate the South and unify the country. From 1977 to 1987, the 324th Division continued to carry out international missions in Laos, working with the neighboring country to liberate Phu Bia - Bom Long, hunt down the remnants of the Vang Pao bandits, and consolidate the grassroots government in 6 districts and 596 villages.
During 70 years of construction and fighting, Division 324 fought more than 3,500 battles, annihilated 50,000 enemies, severely damaged many elite enemy units, shot down 680 aircraft, and destroyed thousands of war vehicles. With its resounding achievements, Division 324 was twice honored by the Party and State with the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces; 13 groups and 15 individuals were recognized as heroes.
