Previously, on June 12, 2025, Hue Central Hospital received information on coordinating tissues and organs from brain-dead donors from the National Coordination Center for Human Organ Transplantation.
Given the urgency and value of the donated organs, the hospital's Board of Directors convened an urgent meeting and mobilized a team of doctors to immediately go to Ho Chi Minh City, coordinating with Thong Nhat Hospital and 108 Military Central Hospital to remove the heart, liver and cornea.
Thanks to effective coordination, the process of organ retrieval and preservation was shortened, and all tissues and organs were retrieved and brought to Hue at 10:28 p.m. on June 13.
Immediately after arriving in Hue, the organ transplant teams urgently performed surgeries at night to save the lives of patients in critical condition.

The heart was transplanted to a patient with end-stage dilated cardiomyopathy, very poorly responsive to medical treatment with very low left ventricular function, LVEF 17-21%; the patient had suffered multiple life-threatening cardiac arrests. The heart started beating again in the recipient's chest at 0:35 on June 14, 2025 after 5 hours and 30 minutes of cold ischemia with 3 types of medium-dose cardiac support drugs and 66 minutes of extracorporeal circulatory support.
The right liver was transplanted to a pediatric patient, born in 2009, with congenital biliary atresia, who underwent Kasai surgery at 2 months of age, had 5 ligations of esophageal varices, and had a very fragile life. The liver was reperfused at 1:53 a.m. on June 14, 2025 after completing the hepatic veins, portal vein, and hepatic artery with a cold ischemia time of 6 hours and 45 minutes.
After surgery, the two heart and liver transplant patients were transferred to the recovery room. By 9:00 p.m. the same day, the two patients were completely conscious, hemodynamically stable, and their hematological and biochemical tests returned to normal. They were taken off the ventilator at 9:00 p.m. on June 14, 2025.
Currently, after 6 days of surgery, the liver transplant patient has good graft function, has resumed eating and light movement. No abnormalities have been recorded in the clinical progression.
Two patients with corneal dystrophy, one of whom had been living in complete darkness, received donated corneas. Each procedure took about an hour, with doctors removing the diseased cornea, replacing it with the donor cornea and stitching it back together with tiny stitches.
After surgery, vision gradually recovered, the patient was monitored and regularly used anti-rejection drugs. This is a priceless gift, bringing light, hope and a new life from the benevolent heart of the donor.

Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep - Director of Hue Central Hospital shared that each organ transplant is a miraculous journey, where life is continued from love and compassion. What is more noble is the silent and humane sacrifice of the organ donors and their relatives. In the most painful moment of loss, they chose to give their lives - a sacred act, contributing to writing the miraculous journey of revival for patients who are fighting against illness every day, every hour, life is as fragile as a candle in the wind.
"We believe that with the spread of these humane values, there will be more and more hearts willing to register to donate organs, so that from pain, life can continue, and from loss, hope can be rekindled," said Professor Pham Nhu Hiep.
