Only the house remains empty and shaky.
After many hours of trying to pull out all the mud from the floor, Mrs. Truong Thi Hien (in Hoa Dong block, Tuong Duong commune) stopped and sat down on a bed on the floor. She was exhausted after many days of being soaked in mud.

Mrs. Hien could only silently look around the empty house, with red eyes. The flood had passed, sweeping everything away. Pots, pans, bowls, and chopsticks were all gone. The gas stove lay scattered on the cold sand. The kitchen collapsed. The main house was shaky. And inside, that woman, who had been sick all year round, could only sigh: "Now there is nothing left to use, not even a mat to sleep on...".

All her savings were gone in a moment. Life suddenly lacked everything. Support with essential items such as blankets, mosquito nets, pots, stoves, clothes, etc. was very urgent for Mrs. Hien at this time.

With Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu - also a resident of Hoa Dong block, her eyes were blank as she said, "The whole family only has a dry shirt to wear, for a whole week now there has been no clothes to change. At night we sleep on a bed, no blanket, no mosquito net. Until now there is no stove, no pot to cook, looking in the mud pile we found a few remaining pots, can they still be used or not?"

In La village, Luong Minh commune, Mr. Lo Kham Dinh's family lost all their wooden house and property just a few minutes after the Nam Non river rose. With a choked voice, Mr. Dinh said: "I have nothing left to survive. We received noodles, fish sauce, and water to survive, but what my family needs now is a temporary place to stay and household items: blankets, mosquito nets, clothes, pots, pans, bowls, chopsticks... to be able to continue living."

The above dire situations are not limited to just a few households, but there are over 1,200 households whose houses are flooded, damaged, or collapsed in the communes of Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, Tam Quang, My Ly, Nhon Mai... The people here, who were already poor, are now penniless.
What is needed now is the supplies.
Ms. Kha Thi Hien - Vice Chairman of Tam Quang Commune People's Committee shared: "People now cannot cook for themselves without a pot, cannot rest without blankets and dry clothes. These seemingly simple items are extremely valuable after the flood."

In fact, at the Fatherland Front Committee of Tuong Duong commune, in the past few days, many people have come to ask for blankets, mosquito nets, mats... but all of them left in disappointment because there was nothing to give away. "Up to now, we have only received exactly 3 mats from the volunteer groups," Ms. Luong Thi Thanh Ngoc - Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Tuong Duong commune said with a choked voice.
Unable to hide her emotions, Ms. Ngoc added: “Instant noodles and clean water are enough for now. But for people to rebuild their lives, the most important things are basic necessities. Bowls, a mosquito net or a shirt… are very precious now.”

Not only is there a lack of household items, environmental sanitation is also a major threat. Mud and rubbish cover residential areas and markets, and there is no clean water to clean up. Localities are requesting the health sector to urgently take action to disinfect and sterilize to prevent disease outbreaks.
Currently, flood-affected communes are calling for the cooperation of the community and charitable organizations inside and outside the province. The list of essential items that are in great need of donations includes: blankets, clean clothes, mats, pots, pans, bowls, chopsticks, slippers, towels, soap, shampoo, mini gas stoves, etc.

“We hope that in addition to providing initial food and water, benefactors will also think about how people will fare in their empty houses. Those items can truly save them after the flood,” said Ms. Luong Thi Hien, Head of the Economic Department of Tuong Duong Commune.
The flood has receded. But without an emergency relief campaign, the risk of “prolonged poverty after the flood” is inevitable. Hopefully, in the coming days, there will be more kindness towards Western Nghe An. To make each kitchen red hot again, each house warm again, not only with small items, but also with the love of sharing after the storm and flood./.
