In Hanoi , at 9:30 a.m. on July 26, at Kim Dong Publishing House headquarters at 55 Quang Trung, there will be a conversation with author Nguyen Thi Thu Hien of the book "The Adventures of Bella and Harry".
This is the latest book in the children's literature library written by Vietnamese authors living abroad.
“The Adventures of Bella and Harry” tells the story of two fish brothers, Bella and Harry, gentle African fish that are often bullied. Bella and Harry grew up under the protection of their sister Sara and brother Mads, their only remaining relatives, but were soon separated.
The work opens up a lively aquatic world with characters such as the gentle Mr. Wise Fish, the old Mrs. Laura, the kind Maria and Jonas. But there is no shortage of "bullies" like old Thomas or the aggressive big fish. Bella and Harry have to move many times, all of which are life-and-death adventures, where the small fish must learn to love and become stronger to protect themselves and their loved ones in order to survive.
Bella tells the story with sincerity and emotion. Every detail about how fish eat, reproduce, live, how children play or pretend to fight in the aquarium is described vividly, intimately and emotionally. The book cleverly integrates lessons about biology, psychology, emotional education , while also sending a message about empathy, kindness, and the right to live a kind life, even for a small fish.
In particular, the illustrations in the book are by 9-year-old Le Bao Han, the author's daughter.
Author Nguyen Thi Thu Hien is a scientist, currently living in Denmark.
On the occasion of author Nguyen Thi Thu Hien's return to Vietnam to participate in activities related to her medical work, Kim Dong Publishing House and author Thu Hien took time to talk with young readers.

The novel revolves around Young Hye – an ordinary woman in a middle-class Korean family – as she suddenly declares to stop eating meat after a violent dream. The first part is narrated by the husband, an indifferent character who values conformity and order, facing his wife's change with a cold and domineering behavior.
Young Hye is criticized and forced by her family, but remains silent, withdrawing from any outside attempts at adjustment. The second part is the perspective of her brother-in-law - an artist obsessed with his body, gradually slipping into a behavior that crosses moral boundaries. The final part is the story of her sister, who witnesses Young Hye's physical and mental breakdown, while also facing the silent losses in her own life.
This edition of “The Vegetarian” is translated from the original Korean by translator Kim Ngan. Unlike the first edition, this edition includes an “Author’s Note” written by Han Kang in 2017 - exactly 10 years after she completed and first published the work in Korean. These comments give readers a deeper insight into her creative background as well as her personal choices in the writing process.
