Speaking at the workshop, Chairman of the Hanoi Theatre Association, People's Artist Nguyen Hoang Tuan, affirmed that in the 70 years since the Liberation Day of the Capital, it can be said that there has not been a single major event of Hanoi and the country in which the capital's theatre arts have not been present. Especially during the years of resistance, Hanoi theatre, along with other art forms, directly participated in the nation's struggle.
Many plays were born from the flames of war, urgently staged and brought to soldiers and people across the country. Heroes, soldiers, farmers, workers, and intellectuals became the center of the plays, along with talented performances by artists in many types of drama, cheo, cai luong, etc., contributing to encouraging the fight.
During the peacetime , the Capital's theater quickly took action, creating works that truly reflected life, multi-dimensional renovation, honored advanced examples, criticized bad habits, awakened social consciousness... Especially, in the current period, the Capital's theater has deeply integrated, developed diverse forms of expression, created new works to meet the tastes of modern audiences, and at the same time served the propaganda work of the Party, State and city's policies and guidelines through art.
Chairman of Hanoi Theater Association, People's Artist Nguyen Hoang Tuan speaking at the workshop
Sharing the same view, People's Artist Bui Thanh Tram said that since the early years of the century, most of the most important theatrical events in the country's theatrical life took place and crystallized in Hanoi. Immediately after the capital's liberation (October 10, 1954), Hanoi's theater quickly entered the orbit of revolutionary theater.
During the first 10 years of liberation, at national stage festivals, the capital's stage left its mark with many outstanding performances. These include "Truong Vien" by the Lac Viet troupe, "Ba Me Song Hong", "Hoang Dieu" by the Kim Phung troupe, "Kieu" by the Chuong Vang troupe, "Thach Sanh" by the Hanoi Cheo troupe...
"The period from 1965 to 1975 was a period in which literature and art achieved great achievements. The contribution of Hanoi theater to that common achievement must first be mentioned as the combativeness, sharpness, and hot topicality of Hanoi theater, a prominent feature that lasted throughout the following years, especially in the following period" - People's Artist Bui Thanh Tram added.
Although affirming that Hanoi's theater "has a glorious history and many achievements", experts also believe that behind the achievements there are still problems that need to be solved.
People's Artist Nguyen Hoang Tuan shared: "As Hanoi integrates more deeply into the integration and modernization process, traditional performing arts are under more pressure and become weaker. Although it is painful, we must admit that the golden age of Cai Luong has passed, traditional arts such as Cheo, folk songs, traditional music... are gradually losing their audiences. Mass arts are facing many obstacles. The State's mechanism for theaters is changing in the direction of the market. The entertainment trend tends to gradually encroach on professional arts, not because professional arts cannot maintain their professionalism, but mainly because the tastes of the masses are leaning towards mass entertainment. This is not something new or against the law, but it is a universal, global phenomenon."
Thereby, People's Artist Nguyen Hoang Tuan said that, on the new journey, the capital's stage arts community needs to continue to innovate, be creative, demonstrate the pioneering spirit of artists in discovering issues of the times, forecasting social development trends and bringing issues and people into stage works in an attractive and engaging way through many modern forms, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the capital's people; developing culture, building elegant and civilized Hanoians; building Vietnamese people in the new era.

According to People's Artist Bui Thanh Tram, the capital and the country are making great strides with many changes, becoming materials for artists to create. Audiences are now gradually returning to the stage, but they demand works of high artistic quality, carefully invested and rich in creativity...
Meanwhile, People's Artist Le Tien Tho said: "The requirements of the times in building a new human being today, set out the task for the performing arts is to be attached to, make efforts to truly reflect life, enrich and deepen the humanism of the country's literature and art. And for the capital's stage to promote its mission, develop to its full potential, and contribute to the capital's cultural industry, stage artists need to strive to promote their creativity to create works of stage art of the highest value, meeting the needs of the public, fulfilling the mission of social responsibility, civic duty and professional ethics, joining hands and hearts to create many works of high artistic value, serving the people"./.
