Specifically, the group has organized many dialogues and discussions on topics related to UNCLOS 1982, shared knowledge and practical experience on ocean management, raised awareness and compliance with UNCLOS 1982, promoted the use of oceans for peaceful and sustainable purposes, and coordinated together to enhance the group's role and contributions at UN forums. The group's efforts and activities have been highly appreciated by friends and the UN.
The ambassadors also discussed the group's future direction of activities, especially when many important events on seas and oceans are about to take place at the United Nations, such as the Conference of the Parties to UNCLOS 1982 (SPLOS 33) and the adoption of the Agreement on the Conservation of Biological Diversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ).
The ambassadors agreed that the Group of Friends will continue to actively promote its role, diversify its methods of operation and persistently pursue its founding goals, especially in the context of promoting multilateralism and international cooperation becoming increasingly urgent.
