Coming to Son La, there are not only plum blossoms, apricot blossoms, bauhinia flowers, and hawthorn flowers, but these days there are also blooming coffee flowers. Visitors will experience the pure "white snow" covering the hills, valleys, and beaches in the weather of May.
From Chieng Ban, Chieng Dong, Chieng Kheo (Mai Son district) to Hua La, Chieng Den, Chieng Ngan communes (Son La city), Muoi Noi, Bo Muoi, Tong Co, Chieng Pha (Thuan Chau district), pure white coffee flowers in the sun, swaying in the wind, suggest a thousand billion harvest on Son La land.
Chieng Ban, Mai Son district is considered the "capital" of high-quality Arabica coffee in the province. Here, there are nearly 1,300 hectares, with an estimated fresh coffee yield of 12-15 tons/ha. The output of fresh coffee is estimated at about 15,000 - 19,000 tons/year. The commune has 21 villages and sub-regions, most of which grow coffee, with an average income of over 41 million VND/person/year, mainly from intensive coffee cultivation.
Along both sides of the road to Chieng Ban commune, this season is the pure white color of blooming coffee flowers and the name of Cu village is the most attractive destination for tourists to admire coffee flowers. The hills planted with pure coffee stretch for thousands of meters, as far as the eye can see. The internal road has been concreted, 4-seat cars can go to the coffee fields, convenient for tourists to visit and explore .
The time when Son La coffee flowers bloom usually starts from March and lasts until mid-May every year and is divided into 2-3 periods, each period of blooming lasts 7-10 days.
Coffee flowers bloom in clusters, forming long flower bands on the thin branches. Each flower has five pure white petals. For those who have experienced the coffee season from flowering, fruit setting to harvest, they can see that coffee goes through many shades, from pure white flowers to green fruit turning yellow, then turning deep red when ripe, shades that few fruit trees have like the coffee tree.
The best time to admire the beauty of coffee flowers is in the early morning when the first rays of sunlight shine down, the early dew drops still linger on the leaves. Walking among the coffee hills, enjoying the fresh air with cool breezes carrying the gentle fragrance of coffee flowers makes the human soul become peaceful and strangely happy.

I think the local government can connect with tourism tours and coffee production enterprises to promote and attract tourists to visit and admire the coffee flower season. At the same time, combine to organize the Chieng Ban Coffee Festival, so that more people can enjoy the taste of Son La coffee and affirm the brand of a destination, because this is the capital of high-quality Arabica coffee in Son La province.
The coffee trees were brought into the fields by farmers in Chieng Ban commune more than 20 years ago. Thanks to the application of scientific and technical advances in care, the coffee garden has grown and developed well. This year, the coffee flowers are very abundant, predicting a bumper coffee season.
Mr. Ha Van Doan, Cu village, Chieng Ban commune, Mai Son district, excitedly said: Currently, Phuc Sinh Son La Joint Stock Company has sent staff in charge of raw material areas to propagate, guide and support households to build a pilot model of high-quality coffee, using organic fertilizers instead of inorganic fertilizers and pruning techniques, canopy shaping, harvesting techniques and will purchase all products for households. People are happy and will apply the correct care process to improve coffee quality.
After more than 30 years of coffee development, Son La is now the province with the largest coffee area in the North, with nearly 20,000 hectares, with an estimated output of nearly 30,000 tons of coffee beans. Currently, more than 16,500 hectares of coffee are UTZ certified; 88 hectares are VietGAP certified; nearly 100 hectares of specialty coffee. In the 2021-2022 crop year, Son La's coffee export output is estimated at 26,500 tons to markets such as Germany, the US, India, etc.
To improve the quality of coffee, along with the participation of the Party Committee, the government, and businesses, there have been specific and practical actions to improve the value and quality of Son La coffee. In particular, the staff in charge of the raw material area of Phuc Sinh Son La Joint Stock Company has gone to the grassroots to propagate and guide people to build a high-quality coffee model.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Huy, Head of Raw Material Area Management Department, Phuc Sinh Son La Joint Stock Company, said: Currently, it is the most beautiful flowering time for Son La coffee trees, promising a very high yield. We are selecting a number of coffee gardens of some households with good farming methods to invest in and instructing people to build high-quality model coffee gardens. After reviewing the current status of the land, pruning and fertilization methods of the people, the company will participate in each specific stage of coffee tree development, instructing people on how to prepare the land, prune branches properly, fertilize, harvest at the right time, improve productivity, coffee quality and reduce input costs for farmers.
The coffee flower season is in full bloom, promising a bumper coffee harvest that brings joy to farmers about a prosperous and comfortable life. Hopefully, in the near future, this place will develop more experiential tourism, so that coffee farmers can reap "double" profits from coffee trees.
