Halloween is a festival with a long history spanning centuries, taking place every year on October 31. The festival is a combination of mysterious, ancient folk legends and modern fun spirit.

Although originating from ancient Celtic culture, Halloween night today has been recreated by many countries around the world in their own way, blending with local characteristics, autumn atmosphere and a bit of scary but fun elements.

According to a survey by Booking.com, 51% of Vietnamese travelers said they want to experience different cultures, 49% want to have more diverse activities on their next trip, and 63% of Vietnamese travelers shared that the reason they travel is to have more time with their family.

From the above actual survey, Booking.com has compiled a list of destinations with a vibrant Halloween atmosphere across Asia so that visitors can fully enjoy the festive season.

Dalat, Vietnam

October is the most pleasant time of the year in Da Lat. The misty fog and chilly air cover the city, bringing a peaceful feeling when coming here. When Halloween comes, this city on the plateau becomes even more attractive not only because of the magical scenery but also because of the mysterious stories that have been passed down by the people for many generations.

Standing out among them is the old French villa on Prenn Pass, which used to be the residence of a French general. After a long period of abandonment, this villa has been restored and opened to visitors during the day. Although it only welcomes visitors in the morning and afternoon, this place still has a mysterious atmosphere with quiet corridors and Buddhist altars along the path, attracting curious visitors to explore the mysterious anecdotes.

Another interesting destination with a “spooky” atmosphere in Da Lat this season is the unique “Crazy House”, also known as Hang Nga Guest House, with spiral staircases and winding corridors in a space that seems to only exist in the imagination.

Hong Kong

In Hong Kong, Halloween is like a large-scale street festival with bright neon lights, creative costumes and a unique fusion of Eastern and Western cultures turning the city into a lively stage.

From September 13 to October 31, “Disney Halloween Time” will return to Hong Kong Disneyland, offering visitors spectacular parades and the chance to interact directly with Disney characters.

Meanwhile, Lan Kwai Fong transforms into a vibrant masquerade party with music and dance performances, while shopping districts like Mong Kok and Tsim Sha Tsui are even more bustling with festive haunted houses, themed events and street performances. For those looking for a more low-key experience, take the Big Bus Tour around the city and enjoy the bustling Halloween atmosphere on the streets of Hong Kong.

Singapore

For Vietnamese tourists who want to enjoy Halloween without traveling too far, Singapore is the perfect choice, just a few hours flight from Vietnam.

Although not associated with ancient horror legends, every October, this island nation transforms into one of the most vibrant Halloween centers in Asia. The highlight is the Halloween Horror Nights event at Universal Studios Singapore, which takes place until early November, attracting a large number of tourists with themed haunted houses, grandly staged spaces and "scare zones" with thrilling role-playing scenarios.

If you want to find a new, more exciting and dramatic experience, visitors can visit Night Safari, the world's first semi-wild nocturnal zoo, which offers a sense of adventure in a mysterious natural space.

In addition, the Clarke Quay area along the river also becomes a vibrant outdoor costume party with parades, themed food parties and street performances. Along with that, Sentosa Island is equally bustling with colorful Halloween festivals by the beach.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Nights of Fright at Sunway Lagoon is Kuala Lumpur’s largest horror festival, featuring a light show, sound show and vibrant live performances. The space is staged like a movie, bringing unexpected scares to thrill-seeking tourists.

With 63% of Vietnamese tourists saying that the reason they travel is to have more time with their family, LEGOLAND's Brick-or-Treat Monster Party will be the perfect choice for this Halloween season. The entire park is transformed into a fun monster world with many creative workshops and attractive performances for both children and adults.

Not far from the center of Kuala Lumpur, the chilly air and mist of Genting Highlands seem to hide something more spooky with the “Haunted Highlands” event. Inspired by Malaysian folklore, this festival will take visitors on a walk through lantern alleys and gloomy corridors where local ghost stories are brought to life.

Tokyo, Japan

In Japan, Halloween is less about the usual horror and more about performance and creativity. Throughout October, thousands of people and tourists take to the streets dressed in costumes ranging from anime characters to classic horror icons, turning the streets of Shibuya and Harajuku into giant costume parties.

Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea hold popular Halloween activities, including parades and performances by Disney characters dressed in Halloween costumes.

Meanwhile, Sanrio Puroland offers a sweeter version of Halloween with Hello Kitty-themed performances, candy and fun. For those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, spend a day at Moomin Valley Park in the suburbs of Tokyo to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, stroll by the lake, explore the Moomin house and immerse yourself in the romantic fairytale scenery.
