170 artists and photographers participate in the Photo Hanoi '25 photography festival

The biennial event is expected to develop its own identity and soon appear on the world map of photography as well as notable cultural biennale events.

Photo Hanoi '25 or the Hanoi photography festival 2025 will last from November 1 to 30. This is the third time this biennale (an event held every two years) has been held, marking a significant increase in scale compared to previous seasons.

According to information given at the press conference about the program on October 22, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and the French Institute in Vietnam are the organizers of the above photography festival, accompanied by the UNESCO Office in Hanoi and a network of domestic and foreign partners.

Accordingly, Photo Hanoi '25 will have the participation of 170 artists, photographers, curators and experts from 21 countries and 25 accompanying professional organizations. The number of artists this year has increased significantly compared to the 100 at Photo Hanoi '23.

Within one month, the public will be able to enjoy 22 individual and group photo exhibitions, along with 29 side events including seminars, workshops, art tours, book launches, film screenings and portfolio reviews (consulting and professional support in the field of photography).

The event is an opportunity for Vietnamese and international photographers to display their outstanding works, share technology and experience in unique and rich creative methods.

Visitors will practice manual photography, take photos with antique cameras, explore 19th-century wet plate techniques, lumen photo printing workshops, make handmade photo books...

The venues for the events are all prominent cultural spaces in Hanoi such as the Cultural and Art Center at 22 Hang Buom (the old Guangdong Assembly Hall), 40 Lan Ong (the old Fujian Assembly Hall), the ancient French house at 49 Tran Hung Dao, the French Institute in Vietnam, Japan Foundation, the Italian cultural space - Casa Italia, Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA), Complex 01, Long Bien Art Space, Matca, Exhibition House at 45 Trang Tien, 93 Dinh Tien Hoang...

Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports - Ms. Bach Lien Huong commented that the event is a joint effort, resonance and connection of organizations, units and individuals at home and abroad with the desire to bring quality art closer to the public who love the art of Photography, people and tourists.

The Photo Hanoi event is expected not only to contribute to promoting and enhancing the image and brand of the capital's culture and tourism, but also to demonstrate Hanoi's strong commitment to implementing cultural initiatives within the framework of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

Mr. Eric Soulier, Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Activities of the French Embassy in Vietnam, Director of the French Institute in Vietnam, quoted the comment of a famous artist: "Photography is intertwined with all things, photography leads to all things" and affirmed that this is also the spirit of this year's program.

He hopes that with the outstanding efforts of all Vietnamese and international teams, Photo Hanoi will affirm its position as one of the major international photography festivals - alongside Les Rencontres d'Arles, Paris Photo, and Visa pour l'Image in France, while affirming its own identity, originating from Vietnamese creativity and openness to the world.

Some notable events include the Vertical Landscape exhibition located around Hoan Kiem Lake, a photo exhibition about the Huong examination in the late 19th century on the wall of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam relic and an exhibition about images of Vietnam in the period 1970-1980 on the wall around the French Embassy...
