CHANGE MEDAL COLOR TO SHOW APPRECIATION TO PARENTS

Yesterday afternoon (May 15th), the taekwondo arena at the 32nd SEA Games witnessed an emotional performance by martial artist Pham Dang Quang. The 63 kg final initially didn't go smoothly for the Vietnamese fighter, as he lost to his Thai opponent in the first round. However, the fighter from Ho Chi Minh City improved as the match progressed. With decisive and precise strikes in each round, he defeated his opponent to deservedly win the gold medal.

After the referee announced the final result, Dang Quang shouted with joy, ran quickly to and jumped up to hug his coach, causing both of them to fall to the mat. In his third SEA Games appearance (having won bronze medals the previous two), Pham Dang Quang was able to change the color of his medal to its most beautiful color, and he wanted to dedicate the gold medal as a special thank you to his family: "I came to taekwondo and developed a passion for this martial art thanks to my brother. My parents also wholeheartedly supported me in pursuing a professional athlete career. From the bottom of my heart, I want to express my gratitude to my family."

"I've never regretted pursuing martial arts. I'm someone who always sets clear goals and is determined in what I pursue. That's why my parents have always wholeheartedly supported me and constantly reminded me to be serious about my choice so that I can become a useful member of society. Now, I've successfully changed the color of my medal, living up to my parents' trust by bringing glory to Vietnamese sports ," Dang Quang shared with boundless happiness. His mouth was beaming with a radiant smile, but his eyes welled up with tears.

A team gold medal is more valuable than an individual gold medal .

Vietnam's number one fencer, Vu Thanh An, beamed with a bright smile after he, along with Nguyen Van Quyet, To Duc Anh, and Nguyen Xuan Loi, brilliantly defeated Singapore to successfully defend their SEA Games gold medal in the team sabre event on May 15th. Just a few days earlier, Thanh An had only received a silver medal in the individual event. Feeling a mix of sadness and disappointment, the Hanoi- based fencer vowed to win the gold medal in the team event.

Keeping their promise, Thanh An and his teammates performed exceptionally well, easily defeating Malaysia in the qualifying round. In the semi-finals, the class of the Vietnamese fencers continued to be demonstrated with a decisive victory over Indonesia, advancing to the final against Singapore. With a well-planned substitution strategy, the Vietnamese men's team secured the overall victory and won the gold medal.

Looking back at the miracles: from the lightning-fast run of Nguyen Thi Oanh to the steely spirit of Bou Samnang.

The Vietnamese delegation accelerates.

Today (May 16th) marks the final day of competition at the 32nd SEA Games. The Vietnamese sports delegation has a strong chance of defending its top position overall, having a significant lead over second-placed Thailand, and still having strong contenders in disciplines such as wrestling, kickboxing, dance sports, weightlifting, and fencing… Vietnam could potentially win around 10 more gold medals and surpass its target.

Vu Thanh An shared: "I am very happy to bring home another gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation. This is a team medal, even more valuable than an individual medal. Before entering the competition, I felt a lot of pressure. Not achieving individual success meant that I and the whole team had to try twice or three times harder to achieve success. In my life, competing in team events is the most enjoyable because the pressure is shared among everyone, and so is the victory. Our Singaporean opponents were very determined. They beat Thailand in the semi-finals, which could be considered a surprise. So, losing the first match was normal. But the whole team was determined to win back. I am overjoyed that we overcame the pressure."
