While the period from November to April promises the best weather, it's also the busiest time of year, and therefore, resort prices are very high. However, because each resort has its own island, you won't face the crowds of peak season at other tropical destinations with more public amenities.

St. Lucia

You won't see much daylight during your winter visit – the sun typically shines for only two to four hours in December and January. Make the most of those long nights by booking accommodation in a glass igloo to watch the aurora borealis dance above.

Galápagos

Winter in the Galápagos Islands is marked by warm weather and plenty of opportunities for wildlife viewing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Plan your visit for December to see newly hatched giant tortoises, albatrosses waving before their seasonal flight, and brightly colored male iguanas attracting females for mating. Visiting in February offers a chance to attend the Santa Cruz Carnival.

With their pristine landscapes and diverse wildlife – from sea lions to marine lizards – the isolated islands of the Galápagos attract those seeking exciting encounters in the wild.
