Having participated in voluntary blood donation to save lives for 12 years, Mr. Nguyen Cu Em (42 years old, Nghia Ky commune, Tu Nghia district, Quang Ngai province) possesses a rather impressive "fortune" with nearly 100 certificates of voluntary blood donation.

Anh Em works as a security guard for a hotel, so he spends more time at work than at home. Many times, while on duty, upon hearing that someone urgently needed blood, he would ask the hotel owner for permission and then immediately go donate blood.

Looking back on his journey, he estimates that he donates blood and platelets an average of 8-10 times per year. He keeps his blood donation certificates both at his workplace and at home.

In recent days, seeing members of blood bank clubs across the country arranging blood donation certificates into the shape of the national flag, Em meticulously followed suit.

“When my colleagues saw me arranging my blood donation certificates into the shape of the national flag, they were surprised to learn that I had volunteered to donate blood so many times. Some even asked me about the process. I really hope that more and more people will understand the significance of donating blood to save lives and actively participate,” Em shared.

Having donated blood to save lives more than 40 times, Deputy Head of Tinh Khe Commune Police (Quang Ngai City) - Major Duong Kim Tuan - also owns a national flag made from his own blood donation certificates.

“With the motto ‘a drop of blood given saves a life,’ I always try to participate in blood donation whenever possible. The greatest happiness for volunteer blood donors like me is that after saving lives, we can continue to spread the spirit of blood donation to the relatives of those patients,” Major Tuan shared.

Having participated in voluntary blood donation to save lives for 15 years, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Tuan Anh (Criminal Technical Team, Quang Ngai City Police) is also the owner of dozens of bright red certificates.

During the September 2nd holiday, Lieutenant Tuan used 30 blood donation certificates to arrange them into the shape of the national flag.

"For me, it's an act that comes from the heart, demonstrating patriotism, national pride, and contributing to spreading the noble act of blood donation to save lives to a wider audience," Lieutenant Anh expressed.

Over the years, the voluntary blood donation movement in Quang Ngai has undergone significant changes, especially since Quang Ngai joined the "Red Journey - Connecting Vietnamese Blood" program.

To date, the voluntary blood donation movement has achieved increasingly important results, making a practical contribution to the care and protection of people's health.

Specifically, in 2012, Quang Ngai received 6,529 units of blood, meeting 93.7% of the demand for blood for emergency and treatment at the Provincial General Hospital. By 2014, the first year Quang Ngai participated in the Red Journey program, it received 8,814 units of blood, meeting 100% of the demand for blood for emergency and treatment for patients.

In 2023 alone, the total amount of blood received in the province was 16,516 units, exceeding the target by 34.3%.

As part of the "Quang Ngai Red Journey - 10 Years of Compassionate Journey" and "Honoring Outstanding Blood Donors" program in 2024, the Organizing Committee awarded Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to 12 families and 25 individuals with outstanding achievements in the voluntary blood donation movement; the Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation awarded Certificates of Merit to 43 individuals with outstanding achievements in the voluntary blood donation movement.
