Volunteer applications for military service are not only a milestone for each individual's new journey, but also a continuation of tradition.
The Petitions – "Manifesto" of Youth
Hoang Duc Manh (born in 2000), a bachelor of the National Economics University, born and raised in Na Ray hamlet, Trung Khanh commune, Cao Bang province, decided to return to his hometown and volunteer to join the army.
In the application, Manh wrote: "I was born, raised and studied in a peaceful environment of the country; through the education of my family and teachers, I understood that the duty of youth and the duty of a citizen is to participate in military service and contribute my small strength to the country..."
There was no specific call, no pressure from anyone, but simply an urge from the heart, from a deep awareness of civic responsibility and the desire to live a useful life. Manh is one of many young people of Trung Khanh commune who continue the revolutionary tradition of his hometown, considering joining the army an honor and sacredness.

In Le Loi commune, Lai Chau province, where the mountains and forests are wild and life is still difficult, the "wave" of volunteering to join the army also spread rapidly. In just a short time, 5 outstanding young men volunteered to join the army, including: Lo Tuan Khang, Lo Chi Huy, Lo Van Thuong, Pan Van Duc and Lo Van Vuong.
Those simple names now carry the expectations and pride of the entire village. In their simple but steadfast sharing, they affirmed: "Ready to go to defend the Fatherland when the Fatherland needs. A shining example for the youth in the village and commune to follow."
The fire from the first people who wrote the petition spread strongly, urging many other young people in the commune to look back at themselves, to look at the noble ideals that many previous generations had pursued. The saying "Where there is a need, there are young people, where there is difficulty, there are young people" seemed to be just a slogan, but now it has been realized through the concrete actions of young people in the highlands.

My father is a veteran who fought in the northern border. I want to follow in my father's footsteps, protect the Fatherland, and preserve the border." The childhood dream has now become a serious decision in life.

Many families with children joining the army consider this a great honor.

In the application sent to the Military Service Council, young man Ha Quang Hieu (born in 2007), living in Dinh Tan area, shared emotionally: "I always keep in mind Uncle Ho's teaching 'nothing is more precious than independence and freedom'. Now, with the sense of responsibility of a Vietnamese citizen, I apply to voluntarily join the army, to contribute my small strength and intelligence to the Vietnam People's Public Security, to contribute to maintaining peace and firmly protecting the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland."

Young people of Hoang Phu commune, Thanh Hoa province want to challenge themselves, mature and contribute their youth to the Fatherland.
For Le Thanh Thai, born in 2003, from Hao Nam village, Hoang Phu commune, Thanh Hoa province, he just graduated from the Faculty of Information Technology, Hong Duc University. Returning to his hometown with knowledge and a desire to contribute, Thai chose the path of training in the army, voluntarily writing an application to join the army with the desire to challenge himself, mature and contribute his youth to the Fatherland.
Also from the same hometown as Thai is Le Ngoc Tan, born in 2007, residing in Phu Thuong 2 village - a young man who, although still very young, soon showed determination and courage when choosing the path of serving the country.
On the morning of October 7, at the Military Command of Hoang Phu commune, on behalf of the local Party Committee and government, comrade Le Quang Vu, Commander of the Military Command of the commune, acknowledged and commended the spirit of self-awareness, patriotism and responsibility of two outstanding citizens who volunteered to enlist in the army in 2026.
"This is a courageous personal decision, demonstrating the will and mettle of Hoang Phu's youth. I believe that with enthusiasm and noble ideals, the two comrades will uphold the tradition of their heroic homeland, excellently complete all tasks, and be worthy of being soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army," comrade Le Quang Vu emphasized.
The mark of patriotism
The selection and recruitment of citizens for military service is an annual task of each locality. But more than an administrative procedure, it is an opportunity for the whole community to reflect on the patriotism and social responsibility of the young generation. The voluntary applications for military service are not only a milestone for a new journey of each individual, but also a continuation of tradition, a link between the past - present - future.
It is often said that "military service is a compulsory responsibility". However, when young people themselves proactively ask to perform that duty with volunteer applications, it is no longer a mere duty, but a vivid expression of patriotism and civic responsibility.
