Delegation No. 21, comprising over 270 delegates from the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, the Ministry of Interior, Yen Bai province, Tay Ninh province; central and local agencies and departments, artists, and journalists, completed their visit to Truong Sa Island from May 18-24 to encourage the military and civilians of Truong Sa district (Khanh Hoa province) and the DK1 platform on the southern continental shelf of the Fatherland.
The delegation, led by Colonel Ngo Van Thanh - Political Commissar of the Naval Technical Department, visited the military and civilians on Len Dao, Sinh Ton Dong, An Bang, Da Tay C, Da Dong B islands in the Truong Sa archipelago and the DK 1/21 (Ba Ke) platform.
Before leaving the port, the delegation offered incense at the Monument to the Unnumbered Ships, belonging to Brigade 125, to commemorate the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives and blood to open up the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail on the sea.
During their visits, the delegation members received reports from the units on the results of their work in protecting the sacred sovereignty of the nation's seas and islands, and the living conditions of the people on the islands.
Captain Thang Huy Nam, Political Officer of the DK1/21 platform, reported that in 2023, the unit successfully completed the tasks assigned by the DK1 Battalion. In particular, the unit excelled in combat readiness and mobile training, with 100% of soldiers achieving good or excellent ratings in training. Furthermore, the platform serves as a strong support for fishermen venturing out to sea. In 2023, the platform provided 15,000 liters of drinking water and hundreds of kilograms of rice, cooking oil, and other necessities to fishermen operating near the platform during times of water and food shortages.
Receiving the heartfelt sentiments from the mainland for all officers and soldiers of the unit on the DK1/21 platform, Captain Thang Huy Nam shared: "Never before have the officers and soldiers on the platform felt as happy as today; the distance between the mainland and the platform feels so close. We have received the affection and gifts from the mainland. This is a tremendous source of encouragement and motivation for the officers and soldiers on the platform to always feel secure in their work and to effectively fulfill all assigned tasks. In particular, the soldiers on the platform are always highly determined to uphold the sacred sovereignty of the continental shelf, never letting their guard down, and always ready to respond and handle any situation within their authority with the spirit of 'As long as there are people, there is the platform.'"
The home front and the mainland always stand side by side.
Mr. Hoang Quoc Long, Director of the Youth Affairs Department (Ministry of Interior) and Deputy Head of the delegation, said that the delegation visited, encouraged, and presented gifts to the military and civilians on Truong Sa island district and the DK1 platform with many valuable gifts, both in terms of spirit and material value. These gifts included: televisions, refrigerators, computers, karaoke sound systems, rechargeable fans, portable speakers, various necessities, and local specialties…
"These are practical gifts for the naval officers and soldiers who are guarding and protecting the sovereignty of the Fatherland day and night on the Truong Sa Archipelago and the DKI platform, to further strengthen the confidence and strength of the military and people of the island district, so that they can feel secure and enthusiastic in their commitment to the sea and islands, stand firm in the face of the waves and winds, and firmly protect the beloved sovereignty of the Fatherland," Mr. Hoang Quoc Long emphasized.
During the 21st working group visit, localities, units, and businesses donated many valuable gifts totaling over 3 billion VND; including nearly 2 billion VND in sponsorship and gifts from the Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, 500 million VND in gifts and cash equivalent to Tay Ninh province, and 500 million VND in support of the "Greening Truong Sa" Fund, over 400 million VND in gifts and cash equivalent to the Ministry of Interior, and over 200 million VND in gifts and cash on the islands from Yen Bai province…
In particular, the Truong Sa Medical Cabinet Program has been implemented for many years to mobilize support from government agencies and businesses for healthcare services for soldiers and civilians on the islands. Mr. Ha Ngoc Son - General Director of TV.PHARM Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (a member of Aikya Group) said that in recent years the company has promoted charitable activities and contributed to society and to the border guard forces, who are the soldiers serving on the remote islands of the Fatherland.
“The 'Medicine Cabinet Program for Truong Sa' has been implemented by us for the past five years, and this year we've added a new plan: participating in the 'Greening Truong Sa' program by sponsoring vegetable gardens for soldiers on the islands and offshore platforms. I think this is a very practical activity to ensure the material well-being of the soldiers on the islands, preventing shortages from the mainland, and this is also a movement that the Navy and the Ministry of National Defense are currently launching for businesses to participate in,” Mr. Ha Ngoc Son explained.
With the Truong Sa Medical Cabinet program, TV.PHARM aims to provide medicinal pills and knowledge about health protection, along with health supplements that provide abundant energy for the soldiers.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tien, Deputy Head of the Internal Affairs Committee of Tay Ninh Provincial Party Committee and Deputy Head of Working Group No. 21, said that throughout the journey, the young soldiers demonstrated determination, youthful enthusiasm, and a commitment to self-improvement, always taking the lead in learning, research, production, and protecting the Fatherland and national sovereignty.
“That makes us feel very emotional. You, comrades, have continued to portray the image of steadfast and indomitable young communists, always following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh and the generations of our forefathers. Therefore, the soldiers on Truong Sa Island always feel secure knowing that the mainland is always close by, standing beside them, and providing a solid support for them to work with peace of mind. On this trip, Tay Ninh province is donating gifts and cash worth 500 million VND and 500 million VND to support the Truong Sa Greening Fund,” Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tien said.
In particular, the delegation not only brought gifts and material resources, but also the songs and performances of singers and actors from the Army Music and Dance Theatre. The cultural exchange programs between the delegation and the soldiers will further nurture the dreams, feelings, and love for the military and civilians on the remote islands.
