People passionate about turning trash into resources

Having the opportunity to volunteer to collect plastic waste, I (as well as many other young people) feel happy and somewhat proud to join Tagom members in joining hands with the community to protect the environment by sorting waste.

Tagom and I always hope that trash is not something to be discarded but something to be reborn, not the end but the beginning of something more meaningful...

Gather youth to contribute with Tagom

Tagom was founded in 2022, initially with only 2 members, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh and Mr. Vu Duc Chung (from Hanoi ) with a passion for waste treatment and turning waste into resources.

Why the name Tagom? Tagom is a combination of the two words "recycle" and "collect", both of which are the main activities that the group focuses on. Ms. Thuy Linh said that after a period of operation, the name Tagom is understood by many people to mean "let's collect waste together", as a call for the community to join hands in collecting and classifying waste properly, practicing a green lifestyle to protect the environment.

The group’s common ideal is to seek a new journey for waste, turning it into a resource for reuse. In the beginning, the association faced many difficulties due to limited human resources and lack of waste treatment measures; but with youth, heart and creativity, Tagom has shown the value it brings to the community every day. Up to now, the group has gradually expanded, with nearly 40 people participating regularly, not to mention collaborators and volunteers participating in large and small campaigns, including me.

Tagom is an environmental project that aims to thoroughly collect inorganic household waste and create a cycle for them. I learned about Tagom when I attended an event about climate change at Thong Nhat Park.

I still remember that day, there were many environmental activities taking place within the framework of responding to Earth Hour in the capital city of Hanoi. By chance, I visited Tagom's booth and was introduced to projects on waste classification and treatment, from plastic waste to solid waste. I was immediately interested and wanted to become a part of the project. Then I registered to implement a campaign to treat plastic waste around the capital and was impressed from then on.

Time flies, and now Tagom and its founders have made many marks that have been recognized by the community. Indeed, they have spent their youth turning trash into a resource that serves human life instead of letting it become the enemy of humanity.

Green charity - clean environment, complete love

Tagom has implemented the activity of collecting old computers and laptops that are still usable to donate to children at Ta Mung Primary School - a highland commune, one of the four most difficult communes of Than Uyen district, Lai Chau province. This green charity project has a "dual value" as it is both environmentally friendly and extremely meaningful. Teachers at Ta Mung hope that when the above old computers are donated, the school will use them to open a common computer room for students from grade 3. Students will be able to study and practice computer science, learn about computer technology. This helps students have easier access to new sources of knowledge, digital knowledge. The expected number of collected computers is 20 old computers and laptops that are still usable.

Many green volunteer activities are implemented by the group in the highlands of Vietnam.

As soon as the project was announced, according to Tagom, many individuals and organizations participated in donating and supporting as an act to both protect the environment, practice a green lifestyle and be a meaningful act, imbued with the humanity of volunteerism, "the good leaves cover the torn leaves", "love others as you love yourself" according to the humanitarian tradition of Vietnam. That green volunteer activity has had the power to spread, received support from the community and multiplied the meaning of life: green living, happy living, sharing living that Tagom has been doing.

This highland volunteer project is a way, though small, to contribute to reducing electronic waste and solid waste in environmental issues. Fortunately, the group was able to gather an unexpected number of 30 units and quickly moved them to Lai Chau to install at the school.

Green living - beautiful lifestyle in civilized era

In addition to easily recyclable waste such as paper, metal, plastic bottles, milk cartons, Tagom group also collects difficult-to-recycle waste such as plastic bags, food packaging, yogurt cups, foam boxes, medicine blisters, batteries, electronic waste, etc. The group believes that if we accidentally create any piece of waste, we should not throw it away, but clean it and collect it for recycling to protect the environment. "We will bring it to recycling and processing plants, so that it can be regenerated into useful products or thoroughly processed without harming the environment," said Ms. Thuy Linh, founder of Tagom. From there, waste is a resource that we can exploit and make the most of!

Tagom are enthusiastic and dedicated people with many campaigns to classify waste for the environment.

The more developed the era is, the more we - global citizens - need to raise awareness of environmental protection, practice waste classification and recycling. I myself am extremely proud to contribute a small effort to Tagom's activities to preserve the clean and green environment. Working with young, enthusiastic and visionary people helps me to become more mature and more aware of environmental protection.

Over time, Tagom has continuously implemented many meaningful projects on waste collection and treatment, while expanding its reach and operations to provinces and cities, especially areas with prominent waste problems. It is known that the group has expanded the model with "environmental rescue stations" in many districts in Hanoi such as Long Bien, Gia Lam, Nam Tu Liem, Thanh Xuan and Hoang Mai. You can bring trash to the rescue point to collect, and be guided to participate directly in the waste classification process. According to statistics, currently, each month there are about 500 people regularly bringing trash to the collection point, the group receives from 5 - 10 tons of trash/month at many locations in the districts.

Tagom continuously searches for and opens waste collection points to make it convenient for people to collect discarded items. Recently, the group has opened another collection point at No. 59, Lane 33 Nguyen An Ninh, Hoang Mai, Hanoi - where most inorganic household waste groups including paper, plastic, metal, food packaging, foam, glass, electronic waste are collected, etc. It is known that this is a daily waste collection point, open 24/7 so that people in the surrounding area or neighboring areas can bring their waste to collect. People who bring waste will be directly guided to classify and accumulate points to be able to exchange for green, environmentally friendly gifts such as ornamental plants, cloth bags, souvenirs. With beautiful actions and beautiful living for the environment, Tagom always receives support from the community and wins many environmental certificates and awards. Hopefully we will have more environmental protection organizations like Tagom so that this planet will always be green and people can live in peace!
