Within the framework of Lang Son Yoga Festival (May 30 and 31, 2025), the Lang Son - India cultural exhibition space has become a unique highlight. Here, the sophisticated traditional embroidery and weaving products of the members of the Nung Phan Sinh Hai Yen Ethnic Embroidery and Weaving Cooperative (Cong Son commune) such as handbags, wallets, scarves and costumes have attracted the attention of many tourists.
Ms. Nguyen Thanh Hoa, a tourist from Hanoi, shared: “I am really impressed with the brocade products displayed here. Each product is like a work of art, imbued with a unique cultural identity that I have never seen anywhere else. Therefore, I bought a few products to give to friends and family.”
The cultural exhibition space at the Lang Son Yoga Festival above is just one of many cultural and tourism events in and outside the province that the cooperative has participated in promoting its products. Ms. Ly Thi Hien, Head of the cooperative, said: The cooperative was formerly the Nung Phan Sinh Ethnic Embroidery and Brocade Weaving Club. In April 2025, the club officially transformed into a cooperative with 33 members. In the past, the cooperative members regularly exchanged experiences and supported each other to improve product quality, helping the traditional embroidery and weaving profession regain a solid foothold. Currently, we are actively completing procedures to turn the product into an OCOP product in 2025.
Since its inception as a club, the cooperative has actively coordinated with relevant units to integrate ethnic cultural education into extracurricular activities, while organizing seminars and cultural and artistic exchanges of the Nung ethnic group. From 2023 to present, the cooperative has organized 3 performances introducing ethnic costumes, coordinated to open a traditional costume sewing class with 30 participants; mobilized members to open 8 garment shops right in the commune, bringing a stable monthly income of about 5 - 6 million VND for each household. Currently, the group produces an average of about 100 - 200 products per month and can double during peak times such as the festival season. The cooperative has also mobilized over 10 million VND from the community to build an area to display and produce local embroidery and weaving products, creating a favorable space for promotion and production.
From the first products launched on the market such as: clothes, hats, scarves, bags..., the members of the group gradually researched, learned and designed many new patterns to increase the value of the products such as: pillow covers, tablecloths, wall paintings... The cooperative also focuses on using social networking platforms to promote products, production processes and cultural stories behind each product, to bring the products to consumers.
Not only improving the value of the products, the cooperative members also introduce the products at cultural, sports and tourism events in the province. Thanks to that, the products are increasingly expanding their consumption markets. Currently, the cooperative has also coordinated with Song Chau Tourism Trade Construction Joint Stock Company (Lang Son) to bring the products to the international market.
Mr. La Van Tung, Chairman of Cong Son Commune People's Committee said: "The Nung Phan Sinh Hai Yen Ethnic Embroidery and Weaving Cooperative is a bright spot in preserving and promoting ethnic cultural values. Not only does it contribute to preserving traditional crafts, but the cooperative also creates livelihoods and increases income for local people. In the coming time, we will continue to create favorable conditions for the cooperative to develop even more strongly."
The effective operation of the Nung Phan Sinh Hai Yen Ethnic Embroidery and Weaving Cooperative is a testament to the creativity and adaptability of ethnic culture in the context of integration. With steady steps and clear direction, it is hoped that the "people who draw their own way on brocade" will continue to bring the Nung Phan Sinh brocade brand far and wide.
