With 34 years of service in the military, professional soldier Colonel Nguyen Van Hue (officer of the Political Department, Provincial Border Guard Command) has 20 years of service in journalism. Not only is he a steadfast soldier on the front line protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands, he also holds a pen and a camera to tell touching stories about his comrades, the people, and the peaceful and quiet border areas. “Writing for newspapers helps me better understand the value of the small deeds of my comrades. When the brave actions and kind deeds of soldiers are known to the people through the press, I feel proud and have more motivation to continue writing!”, he confided.

The first mark on that journey began one day in mid-1995. At that time, Mr. Nguyen Van Hue happened to witness and record a touching story about a comrade working at Cau Bong Border Post who promptly rescued people swept away by waves in the Hon Chong sea area (Nha Trang City). He immediately wrote a short news article and sent it to the editorial office of Khanh Hoa Newspaper. The next day, reading the news published in the newspaper, he was filled with an indescribable joy. “That joy, though small, sowed in me a great excitement, urging me to pursue a writing career. Since then, I have begun to regularly collaborate with Khanh Hoa Newspaper, writing news and articles reflecting the unit's activities, and being a living witness to the stories of soldiers on the sea border…”, he shared. Over the past 20 years, he has been one of the typical collaborators, recognized and rewarded by Khanh Hoa Newspaper every year.

As a political officer, he had the opportunity to be close to soldiers, living with them during business trips, reinforcements, patrols or combat readiness training, and rescue operations for fishermen at sea... It was from this closeness that he had the vivid "living material" to truly reflect the lives of soldiers and activities to protect sovereignty, maritime border security, and mass mobilization work of border guards. Not only that, he also mobilized and supported his teammates to participate in writing news and articles reflecting typical examples and creative work in the unit. Many young officers in the provincial Border Guard force were inspired by him, guided on how to exploit topics, write articles to send to newspapers, contributing to improving the effectiveness of propaganda work in the entire unit.

Over the years, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Hue has also researched and learned more film editing techniques, written commentary, and staged many television reports on crime prevention, search and rescue, border security protection, and law dissemination of the provincial Border Guard force. His works have been broadcast on local television channels, Border Guard Newspaper, People's Army Newspaper, etc., contributing to bringing the image of the green-uniformed soldier closer to the public nationwide. Notably, in 2023, he was honored to be one of 32 outstanding collaborators across the army to receive a certificate of merit from the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam National Defense channel.
