Nutritional components of star fruit

According to EDH & Ettoday, starfruit is high in water and low in calories. It is also rich in fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, and other nutrients, which are beneficial for bowel movements, promote defecation, prevent constipation, reduce the three highs (high blood lipids, high blood pressure, high blood sugar), and protect the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular systems.

In addition, it helps maintain eye and skin health, boosts immunity, provides antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, and reduces the risk of chronic diseases and cancer.

You can include starfruit in your diet to help your body absorb the rich nutrients it provides. In the summer, drink starfruit juice to cool down. Eating starfruit soup can also help relieve coughs.

This fruit is packed with beneficial nutrients but low in calories. Therefore, starfruit is an ideal choice for those who want to lose weight. It helps curb appetite and supports effective weight loss.

The vitamin A in starfruit helps improve vision and prevent eye problems such as cataracts and macular degeneration. For every 100 grams of starfruit consumed, you can absorb 37.5 mg of vitamin C, or about 57%.

Who should not eat star fruit?

While starfruit is delicious, it's not suitable for everyone. The Lao Dong newspaper, citing Baidu, has identified the following groups of people who should limit their consumption of starfruit:

Patients with kidney disease

Starfruit is contraindicated for people with kidney disease. Although starfruit is a nutritious fruit, it contains some toxins, which healthy individuals can metabolize and eliminate from the body as quickly as possible.

However, people with kidney disease or kidney failure cannot metabolize all of this toxin, allowing it to accumulate in the body, potentially causing poisoning in severe cases and negatively impacting the central nervous system.

People who are taking medication

Do not eat starfruit after taking medication. Starfruit contains certain substances that can help transport a large portion of the medication into the bloodstream without being metabolized in the intestines, thus enhancing its effectiveness. Medications such as statins, which are used to lower blood cholesterol, are not suitable to be eaten with starfruit.

Children

Children should not eat starfruit because it can cause blood in the urine after consumption. However, healthy children can still eat it, just be careful not to eat it on an empty stomach.

People with high blood pressure and diabetes need to pay attention to their kidney function.

Patients with high blood pressure and diabetes should avoid eating starfruit. The neurotoxin in starfruit is currently unknown to medicine, and there is no antidote; it can only be eliminated through blood filtration using activated charcoal. Therefore, people with high blood pressure, diabetes, and other conditions should pay attention to their kidney function before consuming it.

Kidney stone patients

Starfruit is high in oxalic acid, a substance that easily accumulates in the human body. Eating too much starfruit over a long period can easily lead to the formation of kidney stones.

People with a cold constitution

We know that starfruit is a cooling fruit, so if people with weak spleen and stomach are prone to coldness, eating starfruit will worsen indigestion and negatively affect their appetite.

The above are the people who should not eat starfruit. If you belong to any of these groups, please avoid this fruit.
