Preventable Bladder Cancer Risks

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên26/06/2023

NEED TO DRINK ENOUGH WATER

According to the Central Cancer Hospital, not drinking enough water is related to the risk of bladder cancer. Drinking water plays a very important role in human life and body. Water eliminates toxic substances in the body through urination. If you do not drink enough water, toxic substances will remain in the urinary system, causing diseases that lead to bladder cancer. The amount of water needed daily for adults is 1.5 - 2 liters. People who work and operate in an environment that causes a lot of sweat need more water.

Drinking water with arsenic levels exceeding the permitted threshold is also a risk factor for bladder cancer. Arsenic in drinking water has long been warned by many experts about its toxicity and the risk of causing bladder cancer. Drinking water from wells, new water sources or public water systems that do not meet the standards for arsenic concentration can easily cause bladder cancer.

SMOKING DOES NOT ONLY CAUSE LUNG CANCER

Experts from the Central Cancer Hospital said: "For a long time, most of the community has known that smoking is directly harmful to the lungs, causing lung cancer. The younger you smoke, the higher the risk. Statistics show that smoking causes many cancer risks to the body, including urinary tract cancer. This is the cause of 60 - 70% of people with bladder cancer. Smokers have a 3 times higher risk of bladder cancer than non-smokers. Smoking is also related to about 50% of bladder cancer cases in both men and women."

According to experts from the Central Cancer Hospital, when smokers inhale, carcinogens in cigarette smoke are absorbed from the lungs and enter the bloodstream. From the bloodstream, they are filtered through the kidneys and concentrated in urine. These chemicals in urine can damage the cells lining the inside of the bladder, increasing the risk of developing cancer.

Bladder cancer has also been linked to certain occupational exposures, including long-term exposure to toxic chemicals. Industrial workers may be at risk of bladder cancer if they are exposed to toxic substances without protective equipment.

TENDING TO BE YOUNGER

People with a family history of bladder cancer are at greater risk of developing the disease than those without a family history.

Statistics show that smoking causes many risks of cancer to the body, including urinary tract cancer. This is the cause of 60 - 70% of people with bladder cancer. Smokers have a risk of bladder cancer 3 times higher than non-smokers.

In addition, there are some other causes such as: urinary tract infection, chronic kidney stones that are not completely treated, urethritis, schistosomiasis, HPV 16 infection, history of pelvic radiation...

Different types of cancer can have different causes. According to some studies, one of the most common cancers today is bladder cancer, accounting for about 3% of all common cancers and ranking second among urinary tract cancers.

According to the Central Cancer Hospital, bladder cancer is showing a tendency to become younger due to the living environment, working environment, polluted water and food sources, as well as smoking among young people.

The urinary system is where the body's waste is eliminated during life. Therefore, each person needs to maintain a healthy lifestyle, avoid risk factors to help the urinary system stay healthy, and avoid dangerous diseases such as bladder cancer.

If you see any unusual symptoms in your body such as: blood in urine, frequent urination, uncontrolled urination, fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal pain... you must see a doctor, definitely do not ignore it. The doctor can use tests and diagnoses to detect the disease early and treat it promptly.
