The Vietnam Global Leaders Forum (VGLF) 2024 is an annual event organized by the Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts (AVSE Global). With the theme "Vietnam - Rising in the face of change", VGLF 2024 continues to be a gathering place for outstanding Vietnamese and Vietnamese-origin people from all over the world to work together for a prosperous Vietnam.
In particular, there is the appearance of influential Vietnamese scientists in many fields such as Physics, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, Medicine , Energy and green development.
The forum "Influential Vietnamese 2024" will take place from March 30 - 31.
Professor Tran Thanh Van: The incubator of science
The famous French physicist of Vietnamese origin, Professor Tran Thanh Van, has been a person who has ignited the passion for science for decades, contributing his best to Vietnam. With his highly appreciated scientific works, he has been awarded many prestigious awards and medals.
In early April 2012, at the American Physical Society Conference, Professor Tran Thanh Van was one of three Asians to be awarded the Tate Medal. This is an honorary award from the American Institute of Physics for those who have made great contributions to organizing and leading physics activities on an international scale. He was also awarded the Legion of Honor, Commander of the National Medal of Merit, Commander of the Academic Palm Medal, Vietnam Friendship Medal, etc.
Professor Tran Thanh Van is a famous French physicist of Vietnamese origin.
Not only focusing on research, over the years, Prof. Tran Thanh Van has brought many physicists around the world closer together through the initiatives of the Conference "Meeting Moriond" or "Meeting Blois". In 1993, he founded "Meeting Vietnam" to connect cooperation, support and help to contribute to the development of science and highereducation in Vietnam.
Together with other famous scientists in the world, he has been working hard to develop the International Science and Education Center in Vietnam. To support young Vietnamese talents to study, research and experience abroad. He is considered the incubator of modern Vietnamese science.
In addition, Professor Tran Thanh Van and his wife, Professor Le Kim Ngoc, have also made great contributions to community activities. For example, the construction of SOS Children's Villages, bringing a bright future to many generations of young Vietnamese people.
Professor Ngo Bao Chau: Symbol of Vietnamese Mathematics
Famous mathematician, Professor Ngo Bao Chau is not only the first Vietnamese to win the Fields Medal in 2010 with his proof of a set of basic problems for automorphic forms, but also the only Vietnamese to date to achieve this achievement and affirm that Vietnamese mathematics has a top factor, comparable to international mathematical powers.
With his scientific works, he has received many prestigious international scientific awards such as the Clay Research Prize of the Clay Mathematics Institute (2004), the Sophie Germain Prize of the Paris Academy of Sciences (2007), the Oberwolfach Prize (2007), the Maurice Audin Mathematics Prize at the Henri Poincaré Research Institute, Paris (2018),... He is also one of the few Vietnamese people to have won the gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad twice (Australia in 1988 and the Federal Republic of Germany in 1989).
Professor Ngo Bao Chau is known as the symbol of Vietnamese Mathematics.
As of 2010, he was the youngest Vietnamese scientist to be specially awarded the title of professor by the Vietnam State Council for Professors. In 2012, he was elected Honorary Fellow of the American Mathematical Society. In 2021, he was elected Honorary Member of the London Mathematical Society. He was also awarded the Legion of Honor by the French government for his contributions to science.
Prof. Ngo Bao Chau is currently working at the Faculty of Mathematics, University of Chicago, USA. In addition, he also holds the position of Scientific Director at the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics in Vietnam, aiming to improve the qualifications of young mathematicians and create conditions for them to become international experts; attracting Vietnamese mathematicians abroad and international mathematicians to participate in research and training...
Prof. Vu Ha Van: Connecting mathematics and big data
"We often ask: What is the purpose of studying mathematics? In mathematical fields, probability and statistics teach us the most correct and coherent way of thinking about data or phenomena observed in daily life," Professor Vu Ha Van shared after he was honored to be one of 35 scientists worldwide elected to become an Honorary Member of the Association of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) in 2020.
He is currently a professor of Mathematics at Yale University and the Scientific Director of the VinBigData Institute. He has embarked on research projects on the Vietnamese genome, solutions for applying artificial intelligence (AI) to process medical images, and testing self-driving cars. The professor believes that data technology will be a weapon to help Vietnam "take a shortcut" and apply it to the healthcare, agriculture, and transportation sectors.
Professor Vu Ha Van has many prestigious awards in Mathematics.
Prof. Vu Ha Van won the Sloan Fellowship and the NSF Career Award for young scientists in the US in 2002. In 2008, he won the Pólya Prize (SIAM) of the Society for Industrial Mathematics (SIAM) for his research on concentration of measure. In 2014, he continued to receive the Fulkerson Prize of the American Mathematical Society (together with J. Kahn and A. Johansson) for the solution to the Shamir problem in graph theory.
As a world-leading expert with many prestigious awards in Mathematics, Professor Vu Ha Van has become a pioneer in opening the "golden age" for Vietnamese Mathematics.
Dr. Ha Duong Minh: Pioneer in sustainable energy
As a senior scientist with interests in energy, climate change, and sustainable development, Dr. Ha Duong Minh is currently the President and Research Director of the Vietnam Initiative for Energy Transition (VIET SE). He was previously a visiting professor at the CleanED Lab (University of Science and Technology, Hanoi) and a visiting researcher at the Department of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh).
He is also a lead author of the IPCC Assessment Reports and co-recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
Dr. Ha Duong Minh is known as a pioneer in sustainable energy.
Influential Vietnamese
In addition to famous scientists, the VGLF 2024 Forum promises to have the participation of more than 100 influential Vietnamese faces in the economic fields such as Prof. Tran Van Tho, Prof. Vu Minh Khuong, etc.; in the socio-cultural fields such as Professor Le Kim Ngoc, founder of the project "Nuoi em" Hoang Hoa Trung, director Tran Anh Hung... or typical businessmen such as CEO of Vinfast India Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alpha Books Mr. Nguyen Canh Binh, etc.
The forum will open up opportunities to connect influential Vietnamese people in the country and around the world with international partners and businesses. Along with inspiring success stories, directions for cooperation, investment and resource attraction in many fields.
