1. How many questions are there in the A1 theory test?
The A1 theory exam has 25 questions including:
- 01 sentence about the concept;
- 01 question about serious traffic safety situations;
- 06 questions about traffic rules;
- 01 question about speed and distance;
- 01 question about traffic culture and driver ethics;
- 01 question about driving techniques or repair structure;
- 07 questions about road sign system;
- 07 questions about solving traffic situations and skills to handle traffic situations.

2. Latest A1 theory test set in 2023
According to Official Dispatch 1883/TCDBVN-QLPT&NL, the questions used for the examination for granting a motorcycle driving license for class A1 include 200 questions, including 20 questions about serious traffic safety situations according to Appendix 1 attached to this document (non-basic questions not related to knowledge and skills for class A1 include: 83 questions about concepts and road traffic rules, 26 questions about transportation operations, 18 questions about traffic culture and driver ethics, 44 questions about driving techniques and 35 questions about repair structure, 117 questions about the road sign system and 79 questions about solving traffic situations and skills to handle traffic situations).
Thus, the latest A1 theory test set in 2023 includes 200 questions, including 20 failing questions.
3. How many questions are required to pass the A1 theory test?
The A1 theory test time is 19 minutes. At the end of the test, if the candidate gets 21/25 questions correct and does not answer any failing questions incorrectly, he/she will be considered to have passed and will be allowed to continue with the practical test.
4. If I fail the A1 theory test, can I take the practical test?
According to Clause 1, Article 27 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT, amended by Clause 16, Article 1 of Circular 38/2019/TT-BGTVT, the recognition of test results for A1 driving test takers is as follows:
- Candidates who pass the theoretical and practical driving test in the picture will be recognized as successful;
- Candidates who are not recognized as passing the exam can re-register for the exam from the next exam session, with the same testing management agency that issues the driving license;
- Candidates who fail the theoretical test will not be allowed to take the practical driving test;
- Candidates who pass the theoretical test but fail the practical driving test in the diagram will have their theoretical test results reserved for 01 year from the date of passing the test results; if they want to take the test, they must meet the age requirements, the driver's health certificate issued by a competent medical facility must still be valid according to regulations and must be named in the record of absence or failure of the previous Test Council or Test Team.
- Candidates who bring phones or communication devices into the theoretical examination room or commit other fraudulent acts that distort the examination results will be suspended from taking the test and have their examination results revoked.
Thus, when taking the A1 driver's license test, if you fail the theory test, you will not be allowed to take the practical test.
