Young people leave the city to start businesses in rural areas.

Instead of choosing the path of "clickbait" with shocking or unusual content, Nong Thi Cam Quynh, a Nung girl from Dong Dai village, Binh Ca commune, chose to tell stories of her village through gentle, authentic videos revolving around food, customs, simple working life, local products, and recreating a peaceful countryside.

Quynh was a student at the Academy of Journalism and Communication. After graduating, she had the opportunity for a stable job in Hanoi, but with a deep love for her homeland and a desire to do something for her, Quynh decided to return to her village. Utilizing her journalism skills and the potential of TikTok, Quynh filmed her first videos introducing her Nung village, the lives and work of the people, and especially the delicious mountain cuisine such as: sticky rice with palm leaves, sticky rice with water spinach, Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms, stonecrop jelly, pickled buffalo hide, ground tamarind, bamboo worms, and wild bamboo shoots… Quynh recounted: “The videos are not staged, but filmed very authentically, saying what you see, with a strong farmer's feel, carrying the natural flavors of the mountains and forests, thus winning the hearts of viewers. Some videos reached 2-4 million views in just a few days after being uploaded.” Through these short videos, the food, agricultural products, and medicinal herbs of Tuyen Quang province are introduced in the most natural and authentic way. From then on, the young woman began to chart her own entrepreneurial path, focusing on local products. Quynh creatively and wittily presented high-quality local agricultural products such as bamboo shoots, tea, buffalo meat, dried pork, sausages, and ginseng, successfully reaching a wider market.

Like Quynh, Vang Thi De, a Hmong woman from Thai Phin Tung commune, graduated from Hanoi University of Culture but rejected many job opportunities in the capital to return to the mountains, nurturing her dream of bringing Hmong linen fabrics to the world . On her TikTok page, Hmonghemp, De introduces the products and weaving process of Hmong women in an authentic and relatable way, spreading a spirit of innovation and creativity, contributing to preserving and promoting the cultural identity of her homeland, while also attracting many orders, helping dozens of women in the commune find jobs and earn extra income.

When mentioning TikTokers from the highlands, one cannot fail to mention Nguyen Hoai Thuong, a Tay ethnic girl from Thanh Thuy border commune. Having worked in the city with a good income, Thuong chose to return to her hometown. She skillfully incorporates images of early morning green tea baskets, steaming hot Shan tea amidst the mountains and clouds, and traditional dishes like bamboo shoots with chili, sticky rice cooked in bamboo tubes, and puffed rice into her videos with charming and gentle storytelling, attracting millions of views. Her first video, showing her mother's sticky rice cooking process, garnered 10 million views in just one day. Currently, Thuong's TikTok channel has over 400,000 followers and more than 12.4 million likes, becoming a major channel for selling agricultural products for people in the highlands. Sharing her reason for leaving the city to return home, Thuong said: "I think any job is a job; what's important is that wherever you are, you are working and creating value for society."

Virtual network - real value

Beyond simply promoting culture and agricultural products, local TikTokers have transformed social media into a channel for creating real value. Through TikTok Shop, many agricultural products from Tuyen Quang have found a wider market, helping people reduce poverty sustainably. Nong Thi Cam Quynh shared: “Some products are produced by my family, while others are from villagers. All are clean, high-quality products, but we couldn't find a market for them. Through these channels, I've helped the villagers sell their products and increase their income.”

In addition, many young people are leveraging the power of digital platforms to do charity work and spread positive values in the community. The case of YouTuber and TikToker Nguyen Tat Thang from Ha Giang 1 ward is a clear example. Over the past five years, his digital platforms have released more than 3,500 videos, attracting over 610,000 subscribers from dozens of countries. The content of his videos focuses on introducing the land and people of Tuyen Quang, while also connecting with benefactors to help build bridges, roads, schools, donate houses, support livelihoods for people in mountainous areas, award scholarships to help poor students overcome difficulties, support people affected by natural disasters, and spread good deeds in life.

The stories of these village TikTokers today affirm that when the younger generation seizes opportunities, the digital space becomes a universal key for them to continue their journey of developing their homeland with faith, creativity, and heartfelt love. There, agricultural products are supported, culture is preserved and spread, and acts of kindness are multiplied, making the village closer and more connected to all regions.
