Many essential items such as gas lighters, water bottles, carbonated drinks, perfumes, etc. are often left in cars by car owners. However, these are “time bombs” in cars when exposed to hot weather.

With peak temperatures of around 40 degrees Celsius like today, the greenhouse effect will cause the temperature in the cabin of a car parked in the sun to reach over 70 degrees Celsius. High temperatures combined with direct sunlight can cause many items in the car to be damaged, deformed, and even cause dangerous fires and explosions.

In fact, in recent days, there have been many cases of cars catching fire, emitting thick smoke, with the initial cause believed to come from flammable objects in the car such as water bottles, gas lighters, even eyeglasses,...

Experts say that there are items that should not be left in the car when it is hot or exposed to direct sunlight. This not only damages the car's interior and makes it unhygienic, but also poses a very dangerous risk of fire.

Here are some items that experts recommend leaving out of your car or leaving in a suitable location:

Gas lighter

The gas in the lighter is very easy to expand when exposed to high temperatures, leading to the risk of explosion, so it is also called a "time bomb" in the car. When the gas lighter explodes, some parts of the car can be damaged, even causing a fire. Therefore, when parking the car in hot, sunny weather, the lighter should be removed from the car immediately.

Mini fire extinguisher

An item that can extinguish fires but if not careful can become a source of danger. There have been many cases of mini fire extinguishers exploding when exposed to sunlight for too long.

Experts advise that if you must place a mini fire extinguisher in a car, you should choose a location that is not directly exposed to sunlight, such as the trunk, door compartment or under the seat. Do not place it on the dashboard or near the car's windows.

Mineral water bottle

Mineral water bottles are indispensable in most cars and are often placed by car owners in places such as the doors, behind the seats, gear shift area, and many people even place them on the dashboard,...

Experts warn that water in plastic bottles, when left in the sun for a long time, can change its chemical composition and become toxic to the human body. More dangerously, the water bottle can concentrate the sun's rays and turn them into an extremely strong beam of light similar to a converging lens.

The beam of light can be strong enough to ignite materials such as leather or plastic that it shines on if the conditions are right, leading to a high risk of fire.

Therefore, the safest place to put water bottles in the car is under the trunk or in the storage area behind the front seats. Absolutely do not leave water bottles on the dashboard or near the windshield when parking in the sun to avoid risks.

Crystal and glass decorations

Crystal balls or glass decorative hangings are also kept in the car by many car owners, especially on the dashboard or hung on the rearview mirror.

Similar to the way a water bottle works, a crystal or glass ball can turn into a converging lens and burn interior materials when exposed to strong sunlight, even more dangerous. Therefore, during the hot season, you should not decorate your car with such items.

Carbonated drinks, perfumes

With carbonated drinks or perfumes, the liquid inside can expand strongly when exposed to strong sunlight and high temperatures, leading to the risk of the metal shell exploding, causing damage and certain inconvenience to the car owner. In addition, the chemicals inside perfumes and carbonated drinks also change quickly and can become harmful when exposed to high temperatures.

To limit the loss of effectiveness and risks related to fire and explosion, experts recommend that you immediately remove carbonated drinks, perfume bottles, etc. from the car when left in hot sunlight.

Electronic equipment

According to experts, leaving electronic devices such as phones, cameras, laptops, etc. in cars during hot weather will greatly affect their lifespan.

At high temperatures of 65-70 degrees Celsius, the components in these devices are easily damaged or even melted. Therefore, it is necessary to minimize leaving electronic devices in the car on hot days.

Even with devices attached to the vehicle such as dash cams, solar-powered tire pressure sensors, etc., if the vehicle must be left outdoors in the sun, it should be removed and stored in a shady place or protected from direct sunlight to ensure the longevity of the device.

In addition to the above items, experts also advise that you should not leave medicines, cosmetics, food, candy, or chocolate in your car during hot weather because temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius will cause most of them to lose their effectiveness, even harm your body or melt in the car, causing unsanitary conditions.

When forced to leave the car in the hot sun for a long time, it is necessary to take appropriate protective measures, especially the front glass of the car. At the same time, you can open the window a little to let the heat escape, avoiding the greenhouse effect leading to too high temperature inside the car.
