Nestled amidst the tranquil Hau River, My Hoa Hung is known as a fertile land with lush green orchards covering the area year-round. This land is also the birthplace of the steadfast communist revolutionary, the exemplary leader of the Party, State, and People of Vietnam, Ton Duc Thang. Due to the challenging transportation conditions, travel and trade for the people were difficult in the past, but with the leadership and guidance of the local Party committee and government, the lives of the people have gradually improved.

According to Vo Minh Tuan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of My Hoa Hung commune, in recent years, the commune has successfully implemented agricultural production plans, building concentrated commodity production areas on a scale suitable to each type of production and local conditions. Several key products are sold through cooperative linkages, generating income for farmers and helping to stabilize their lives. Since being recognized as a new rural commune in 2015, an advanced new rural commune in 2020, and a model new rural commune in the field of production organization in 2024, the socio -economic development of the commune has been stable. The recognition as an island commune holds even greater significance, fulfilling the aspirations of many generations of people here.
Upon becoming an island commune, the commune continued to receive comprehensive investment in infrastructure, including transportation, electricity, clean water, schools, and other public facilities. Local residents have access to preferential policies from the State. Born and raised on Ong Ho islet, Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Loan, residing in My An 1 hamlet, shared: “I have witnessed many changes in my homeland, from the days when transportation was difficult and people's lives were hard, to when My Hoa Hung commune was recognized as a model new rural commune, the appearance of the commune has improved significantly, and people's lives have been enhanced. On April 8th, the commune was recognized as an island commune by the Provincial People's Committee, and the people were even happier to receive 100% health insurance support. This is a very meaningful policy, demonstrating the deep concern of the Party and the State for the people of the island commune.”
Unable to hide his excitement after receiving a health insurance refund, Mr. Truong Dien Son, residing in My Long 2 hamlet, said: “For the people in my hometown, especially those in difficult circumstances, this policy helps reduce some of the burden of medical examination and treatment costs, bringing assurance of healthcare in life. Everyone feels the practical sharing and care from the State for the people of this island commune.”
According to Nguyen Trung Nam, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of My Hoa Hung commune: “The commune's officials, Party members, and people are determined to successfully implement the targets in building a new rural commune and national sustainable poverty reduction programs, contributing to socio-economic development. The commune focuses on building transportation infrastructure, beautifying the area to make it increasingly bright, green, clean, and beautiful, linking economic, tourism , and cultural development, and building a more civilized and modern island community.”
The people of My Hoa Hung hope that being recognized as an island commune will contribute to promoting the local development of ecotourism and experiential tourism associated with riverine culture and historical relics in the area. With its peaceful natural landscape, lush fruit orchards, and the genuine, gentle nature of the people of the Mekong Delta, My Hoa Hung island commune is considered to have great potential to become an attractive destination for tourists from inside and outside the province.
