Import and export flourish
In the first 6 months of 2025, the export turnover of enterprises in the province is estimated to reach 1.95 billion USD, an increase of 15.2% over the same period in 2024. Notably, this result exceeded the annual plan, reaching 101.4%, showing remarkable growth as well as clear effectiveness in the province's trade promotion strategy and support for export enterprises.
On the other hand, import turnover also recorded encouraging growth, with a total value of 2.195 billion USD, up 15.8% over the same period last year. Both import and export indexes show a bright picture of international trade activities, especially in the context of the global economy still facing many difficulties and instability due to the impact of geopolitics , inflation, and the global supply chain has not yet fully stabilized after the pandemic.
An important milestone contributing to promoting import-export activities is the official opening of the Hoanh Mo (Vietnam) - Dong Trung (China) bilateral border gate pair at the end of June 2024. Notably, this event includes the opening of the Bac Phong Sinh - Ly Hoa customs clearance, helping to enhance the trade connection capacity between Quang Ninh and the southern border areas of China. This event not only has symbolic significance, but also opens up a new strategic direction in border trade cooperation, creating an important foundation for continuing to plan border economic zones, attracting investment, upgrading logistics infrastructure, and perfecting flexible and effective customs clearance policies and mechanisms.
Along with the expansion of border gates, Quang Ninh also focuses on exploiting the advantages of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) to expand the consumption market for key export groups. Priority items to be promoted include: Electronics, components, cement, clinker, vegetable oil, high-grade candles, tungsten, canvas, limestone, footwear, clothing, handicrafts, ceramics, etc. These products not only bring high export value, but also help to enhance the province's brand in the global supply chain.
In terms of market geography, the province prioritizes developing trade with countries in the Southeast Asian region, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, while expanding relations with potential markets such as Laos, Myanmar, Brunei, where there is increasing demand for light industrial products and consumer goods from Vietnam. Not stopping there, Quang Ninh also proactively takes advantage of incentives from bilateral and multilateral FTAs to boost exports to major markets such as Japan, Korea, India, Pakistan and the European Union (EU). In particular, items such as electronics, textiles, agricultural products, handicrafts, ceramic tiles, high-end candles, etc. continue to be exported to demanding but potential markets such as Germany, the UK, France, and Italy.
Strengthening business support
Faced with the risk of the US imposing reciprocal tariffs on some export products, the province has proactively supported businesses in finding new directions. Quang Ninh has sent information about Vietnamese Trade Offices abroad so that businesses can access and introduce products and expand markets. At the same time, the province has invited associations and businesses to participate in seminars and conferences on logistics solutions, tariffs and trade promotion to promptly seize opportunities and flexibly respond to trade barriers.
The functional sector has guided 35 enterprises in export procedures with new products such as seafood, tea, knitted fabrics, etc. to new markets, effectively taking advantage of tax incentives from trade agreements. In 2025, the functional sectors of the province are actively implementing solutions to facilitate production enterprises, seek new markets and reduce logistics costs. The quality inspection of exported goods has also been strengthened to ensure that goods meet international standards and requirements from major markets such as China, the EU and the US.
In particular, Quang Ninh has focused on developing infrastructure for export activities. A typical example is the operation of a laboratory for testing agricultural products and food at Cau Bac Luan II Border Gate, helping to check the quality of goods before export, meeting the requirements of import markets. This laboratory is equipped with modern equipment, meeting the international standard ISO 17025, bringing convenience to businesses in inspecting and clearing goods.
The Customs sector also focuses on reforming administrative procedures, modernizing customs, drastically supporting and accompanying businesses, improving the business environment, and enhancing competitiveness. At Mong Cai International Border Gate Customs (Customs Sub-Department of Region VIII), state management of customs has been promoted, especially the review and reduction of items subject to specialized inspection. At the same time, Mong Cai International Border Gate Customs has implemented a series of activities to innovate support forms, attract businesses to participate in import and export through the area, effectively maintain business support teams, and increase interaction to support businesses via email, phone, and fanpage. These efforts have created the most favorable conditions for import and export activities.
With the positive results achieved since the beginning of the year, along with a series of synchronous solutions being implemented, Quang Ninh is getting closer to the economic growth target of 14% in 2025. The proactiveness and flexibility of departments, branches, localities and enterprises have become the driving force in improving the efficiency of import and export and the sustainable development of the province.
