A Drouot executive said the price surpassed the $2.05 million paid for another Napoleon hat sold at the same auction house in 2014.
The hat has faded and has cracks due to time but still retains its extremely special value and is one of the rare accessories remaining from the period when Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte ruled France and launched his conquest of Europe in the 19th century.
Auctioneer Jean-Pierre Osenat previously told Reuters that the traditional felt "bicorne" hat became a "familiar image of Napoleon", who owned about 120 of them during his lifetime. However, most of them have been lost.
The hat was previously owned by the late businessman Jean-Louis Noisiez, who spent more than half a century assembling a collection of Napoleonic memorabilia, guns, swords and coins before his death in 2022.
The hat sold for $2.11 million.
