Clip of People's Artist Ha Vy singing 'Journey to the West':

'While my mother was enjoying the performances, the tour guide introduced a people's artist in the Vietnamese delegation and invited her to sing a song. My mother sang Journey to the West and the song Aspiration from the movie of the same name - two famous songs in the 1980s and 1990s that surprised many Chinese people' - Hoang Trang shared.

According to the female MC, the audience there cheered and encouraged NSND Ha Vy enthusiastically when she asked to sing again. Even the Chinese audience could not believe that a Vietnamese artist could sing Tay Du Ky so accurately and in the spirit of the original. And they were surprised to know that NSND Ha Vy had not studied Chinese. MC Hoang Trang was so proud and touched that she recorded a short clip of her mother singing and posted it on her personal page.

Entering her 70s, People's Artist Ha Vy still diligently exercises to stay healthy and practice breathing.

People's Artist Ha Vy has traveled to many provinces in China to perform during her years working at the Thang Long Music and Dance Theater. Nearly 40 years ago, the artist was a famous solo singer of the theater. In 1986, the film Journey to the West premiered and became famous in Vietnam, which was also the time when People's Artist Ha Vy had the opportunity to learn the song Journey to the West in a performing arts exchange program in China.

MC Hoang Trang said her mother did not know Chinese, so everything was learned orally, that is, by listening to the original songs of Chinese artists, then transcribing them. People's Artist Ha Vy asked Mr. Hoang Vinh Giang - then Vice President of the Vietnam-China Friendship Association - to correct and standardize the pronunciation, intonation, etc.

MC Hoang Trang recalls 1987 when she was only 5 years old and saw her mother learning the song through a cassette, word by word, then writing the transcription and learning the pronunciation herself. Since then, People's Artist Ha Vy and the song Journey to the West have not only performed in China in exchange programs but also performed on many stages in Vietnam and were always asked to sing it again.
