According to his family, People's Artist Thanh Hai was hospitalized on April 18, but yesterday (May 24), his health deteriorated due to severe pneumonia. Ms. Nguyen Hoa - the artist's daughter - said: "My father is currently being closely monitored at the hospital, his health condition is very weak. The whole family is worried."

It is known that People's Artist Thanh Hai's health has been declining over the past time, making him unable to continue performing with the A O Show troupe - an art program combining traditional and contemporary art. This is where he contributed to creating a musical identity with Vietnamese soul, captivating domestic and international audiences at the City Theater.
Immediately after hearing the news, People's Artist Bach Tuyet - a close friend in the arts, was present at the hospital to visit and encourage him. She emotionally shared: "Thanh Hai is not only a talented musician, but also a soul that keeps the rhythm of Cai Luong. Now that he is sick, I feel like a part of Cai Luong is also silent."
Also visiting him were some young actors from the Cai Luong Academy - where he was teaching before being hospitalized.
Young artists are familiar with the image of a diligent teacher, meticulously teaching each vọng cổ verse, each beat in difficult songs. To them, People's Artist Thanh Hai is not only a great artist but also a person who ignites the fire of the profession, instilling in them faith in the future of cải lương.
Born in 1957 in Hai Phong in a family with a musical tradition - his father was a zither musician and his mother was a reformed opera artist, People's Artist Thanh Hai came to traditional music from a young age.
He started learning to play at the age of 6 and soon became a master of traditional musical instruments such as the guitar, zither, monochord, and zither. He was also one of the first people in Vietnam to use the Pel organ to perform Cai Luong - a bold but effective innovation.

Hundreds of cai luong plays from stage to television bear his musical mark - a person who always respects traditional values but is not afraid to innovate the way of expression.
Concert pieces such as Vong Kim Lang, Phi Van Chorus, and Doan Khuc Tam Giang (in collaboration with People's Artist Van Gioi) are still considered standards for the combination of technique and emotion.
Not only composing and performing, People's Artist Thanh Hai is also a dedicated teacher. At the Cai Luong Academy, he teaches young actors the skills to sing Nam, Bac, Oan - tunes that not everyone has the qualifications and patience to convey.
For his students, he is the one who holds the “key” to the profound world of folk music. Just like before when he worked at the City Performing Arts Troupe, Troupe 284 and Tran Huu Trang Opera House, he has devoted much effort to helping artists bring efficiency to the stage.
