On December 29th, the Provincial Statistics Department held a press conference to announce the socio -economic statistics for Ninh Thuan province in 2023. Attending the press conference were representatives from several provincial departments and agencies, as well as reporters from media outlets in the province.

At the press conference, the head of the Provincial Statistics Department stated that in 2023, the province's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) is estimated to increase by 9.40% compared to the previous year, ranking 9th highest in the country and 2nd highest among the provinces in the North Central and Central Coastal regions. Specifically, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector increased by 4.57%; the industry and construction sector increased by 15.80%; the service sector increased by 8.50%; and product taxes increased by 2.14%.

Industrial production increased significantly due to the addition of new capacity in the renewable energy power generation sector; favorable weather conditions, changes in production models, and technological innovations contributed to a high increase in sea salt production. The overall industrial production index increased by 13.17% compared to the same period in 2022. Total retail sales of goods and services reached 38 trillion VND, an increase of 15.9% compared to the same period last year.

Agricultural, forestry, and fisheries production in 2023 maintained stable growth. Adequate irrigation resulted in increased planting area and yields for annual crops compared to the same period; rice production was bountiful and prices were favorable; and the output of most perennial crops increased significantly. Livestock farming developed steadily; and fisheries production increased in both fishing and aquaculture. The total rice planting area in 2023 reached nearly 47,000 hectares, an increase of nearly 1,500 hectares, with an estimated yield of 61.8 quintals/hectare, and a total output of 290,000 tons, an increase of 10,000 tons. Total fisheries production reached 142,800 tons, an increase of 3.1% compared to 2022, of which aquaculture production reached 11,200 tons and fishing production reached nearly 131,600 tons. Aquaculture seed production reached 41.7 billion units, an increase of 4.7% compared to the previous year; of which shrimp seed production reached 41.0 billion units, an increase of 4.5%.

Total state budget revenue is estimated at VND 3,658 billion, reaching 100% of the annual forecast and decreasing by 4.5% compared to the previous year. Total state budget expenditure for the whole year is estimated at VND 8,200 billion, reaching 108.7% of the annual forecast and increasing by 10.1% compared to 2022. Investment capital implemented in the area at current prices is estimated at VND 21.7 trillion in 2023, an increase of 12.2% compared to the previous year. The consumer price index (CPI) increased by 4.57% compared to the previous year.

The average population of the province in 2023 was 601,200 people. The workforce is trending upwards, but the labor market and employment are growing slowly due to continued difficulties and challenges. Overall in 2023, the number of employed people increased by 4,900 compared to the previous year.
