Female student who studies with passion wins second prize in the History Olympiad.

With a passion for history, from the stressful journey of training with the national team to her own study strategies, this female student excelled and won second prize in the Ho Chi Minh City History Olympiad.

Luu Hoang Truc Quynh, a student in class 12A9 at Nguyen Du High School (Hoa Hung Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), has an impressive academic record. In the 2024-2025 school year, Quynh was the top student in the 11th grade. Furthermore, she won two second prizes in the Ho Chi Minh City History Olympiad for high school students in the 2024-2025 school year and the Ho Chi Minh City Excellent Student Selection Exam for high school students in the 2025-2026 school year.

Quynh studied history not only for her graduation exams but also because she had a special love for the subject. Through the glorious events and battles of her ancestors, she grew to love Vietnam and its people even more. This love became the driving force behind Quynh's dedication to the history team from the beginning of high school until 12th grade.

Quynh said that pursuing history was not easy, due to the vast amount of knowledge required, demanding strong memorization and systematization skills. History requires students to understand and grasp events and contexts thoroughly. Besides studying, she also served as the Deputy Secretary of the school's Youth Union in 11th grade, so balancing academics, preparing for the school's competitions, and extracurricular activities significantly increased the pressure.

Sharing her learning methods, Quynh believes the most important thing is knowing how to filter information and organize knowledge logically. Since textbooks often contain a lot of information, Quynh summarizes the main points and uses bullet points in order to make them easier to remember. Understanding the essence of the problem makes memorization much easier. Instead of using diagrams like many students, she chooses to learn by following the flow of events, from top to bottom, which helps form a clear thought process. After completing a chapter, Quynh usually reviews previous chapters to reinforce her knowledge and improve long-term retention.

Unlike many candidates who often worry before each exam, Quynh says she rarely feels stressed; the secret lies in developing her own psychological strategy. "That is, I always try to maintain my confidence on the outside, and keep my worries inside because just being confident is already a victory in itself," Quynh said.

Mr. Tran Ka Ni, a history teacher at Nguyen Du High School, who directly mentored Truc Quynh, said that Quynh is a student with excellent thinking skills and the ability to write and present her work scientifically and clearly. In particular, during the intensive preparation period before the exam, Quynh showed admirable effort by frequently staying at school until 8 PM to study, maintaining this intensity continuously for about 10 days. "Quynh's achievement is not surprising, because her ability and effort showed her potential to win an award beforehand," Mr. Ka Ni said.

Speaking about her close friend and classmate, Duong Quynh Huong said that Quynh is an all-around talented person, almost "capable of doing anything," and very dynamic. Besides being hardworking, Quynh has very effective study methods. Furthermore, Huong is impressed with Quynh's organizational and teamwork skills.

According to Mr. Duong Quang Phu (Youth Assistant at Nguyen Du High School, and Quynh's homeroom teacher in 10th grade), Quynh not only excels in her studies but also balances her academics, club activities, and Youth Union work. She also possesses the ability to connect with, organize, and effectively implement activities for students throughout the school.

"Upon entering school, she participated in the district-level 'Student Leader' competition and achieved good results. Quynh served as class president and excelled in her duties, her voice having a significant influence and earning the trust and respect of her classmates. Furthermore, Quynh's high achievement in history has contributed to spreading love for social sciences, helping other students gain more direction and a clearer understanding of the value of this subject in relation to love for the country and Vietnamese history," Mr. Phu said.
