On the evening of September 18, the Ho Chi Minh City Orthopedic and Trauma Hospital announced that it had just performed surgery to save a tragic work accident victim whose right wrist was severed by a machine and lost bone.
The patient, Mr. LGT (22 years old), had his right wrist severed by a machine during his late night shift on September 13. He was given first aid on the spot by his colleagues and then taken to the emergency room with the severed part.
Mr. T's hand was saved but still had to undergo surgeries to reconstruct, microsurgically connect the nerve, and connect the flexor and extensor tendons.
Realizing this was a serious accident, the doctors provided emergency treatment, resuscitated blood loss, cleaned, treated, and performed emergency surgery to save the patient.
The surgical team including Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Thach, Dr. Nguyen The Minh Hoang, and Dr. Do Dinh Duy performed microsurgery to save Mr. T's hand.
Now, after 5 days of reassembling his hand, Mr. T's health is gradually stabilizing. He is expected to undergo further surgeries to reconstruct, microsurgically connect the nerves, and connect the flexor and extensor tendons.
According to the doctors, this was a difficult case. The surgical team shortened the radius bone to create a relatively stable wrist, then prioritized microsurgical grafting of arteries and veins to save the hand.
"Workers also need to pay attention to ensuring adequate labor protection equipment, complying with technical procedures and protecting themselves to avoid unfortunate accidents. Especially in situations of working late at night, it is even more necessary to be vigilant to work productively while maintaining personal safety" - Dr. Ngoc Thach recommends.
