Nunez scores consecutively for new club |
Darwin Nunez has made his mark at Al-Hilal just days after completing a £53m move from Liverpool to the Saudi Pro League. The move brings to an end the Uruguayan's three-year spell at Anfield, where Jurgen Klopp splashed out £85m to sign him from Benfica after a breakout spell in Portugal.
Nunez joined Al-Hilal stars Joao Cancelo, Theo Hernandez and Aleksandar Mitrovic at their training camp in Germany over the weekend. He came off the bench on his debut on Sunday and scored a low, accurate shot in a 6-0 thrashing of Aarau (Switzerland).
His brilliant form continued when Nunez scored in a friendly match against Waldhof Mannheim (Germany) on August 14. This time, the former Liverpool striker fired a powerful volley into the roof of the net, ending his training trip in Germany in impressive fashion.
His explosive start to life at Al-Hilal will have surprised many Liverpool fans, as Nunez is renowned for his ability to miss chances in the Reds colours. He is among the top three Premier League players to have missed the most chances in the last two seasons, with 21 in 2022/23 and 27 in the following campaign. Notably, in his final 22 games under manager Arne Slot, Nunez has scored just one goal - a number that contributed to his departure from Anfield in search of a fresh start.
