Snow in Gateshead town in Tyne and Wear county, England
Snow and ice warnings have been issued for large areas of the UK, with parts of the country expected to be hit by up to 10cm of snow today, according to The Guardian and The Telegraph .
Record snowfall was set in south-east England on 30 November, with Oxfordshire becoming the first area since 2007 to see at least 1cm of snow in November.
The early winter comes as November temperatures hit their lowest in seven years in the UK, with some parts of the south-east recording -10C.
The UK's record low temperature for November was -16.1C in 1912 in Cumbria.
The situation forced more than 30 schools in Cornwall to close or delay school hours on November 30.
Rail services were also disrupted by the weather conditions, with services between London St Pancras and Corby cancelled or delayed.
The Met Office has issued a snow and ice warning for parts of the north-east, East Midlands, eastern England, Yorkshire, the Humber and parts of Scotland on December 1.
Met Office spokesman Oli Claydon said the icy weather was expected to continue until the weekend and urged affected areas to be aware of the potential for further damage.
